Minor victory thread

Finally home after an 11 day road trip to San Diego, so my wife could train her newest employee. It was a fun trip, but it's good to be home.

Hobo and Hobo Jr are off camping, my daughter called and asked if she spend another night at her friend's house and I have a dining room full of flowers that are begging to have their picture taken!!

I just need some energy to take those pictures :)

Maybe you've been alone too long if the flowers are talking to you.

I and my two oldest friends began our annual 'ATP tour' today. Every summer we do a number of competitive events, and keep score. We call it the ATP tour because of our names (Antti, Tommi, Pasi).

Today was pool and darts. Pool didn't go too well for me, I won one and lost three of my matches. But with darts, I won all four rounds, which put me in overall lead score-wise. Yay!

Our ATP tour is strictly in good fun, of course. But it is even more fun if you win.

I wired my new living room for surround sound. This is the first floor of a 2-story house, so I couldn't just go through the attic, and the floor is hardwood, so I couldn't easily go beneath the baseboard. Fortunately, I have recessed lighting, so I pulled the cans.

About halfway across the room, I ran into a brace between the joists. So I removed the ceiling fan and the (thankfully) old-work joist box and was able to reach in far enough with a spade bit to put a hole in it (potato alert--sorry, was holding phone blind in ceiling).

I did have to cut 3 access holes (you can see two in the pic above). I also had to drill through the fire block on the rear wall. In the end, I got the far end of the room wired for 5 speakers (to support 7.1 at least), and I put a distribution panel behind the receiver:

I got everything patched back up, joint compound in place, and repainted. Can't see the access holes were ever there, so mission accomplished.

Pretty sure I'm gonna get out of work early today. We have to lock up at noon for some meetings, so kids can't come in. Once the other librarian gets back from lunch I'm thinking I can bolt.

Welp, my home has officially graduated from "dear god what foul beasts dwell here, maybe we'd best come back with shotguns" to "this house has stood unoccupied and uncared-for since the owner died in 1978" levels of cleanliness (or lack thereof). At least superficially. Depending on what closets are opened. At least it's good enough that I might actually consider letting someone who's known me for more than 10 years come over. Not good enough for a first impression yet, though. Thinking about getting a cleaning service to maintain/improve that. Maybe I better get it to "obviously a bachelor lives here, no woman would put up with this" level first.

Hey, I'm the one who makes the dad jokes. At least, in my house I am. My husband just rolls his eyes. He'd better catch them.

I took the day off for no reason. Then I realized that this was only the second day I've taken off this year. Everyone is terrified to take vacation in this industry right now.
