[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

So I'm looking at finally upgrading the anemic 8M/768k U-Verse DSL service we have coming into this place. There's no guarantee I'll get reimbursement from the other folks living here but whatever, slow Internet is slow. So I look around. The best that the "better" DSL providers according to connectmi.org can do for me is 10M/1M service for $80/mo, which is hardly an upgrade. Satellite is not an option since I don't want to have to deal with habitual 500-600ms ping times and weather interference. Charter cable is our only other alternative. They deliver "up to" 60M/4M (which is likely still better than the "up to" 8Mb/s we get now). Someone here also wants the basic cable package. So I check out their new customer offers:
Internet Only = $39.99/mo for the first year, then "regular price" afterwards (best as I can tell, about $80/mo)
Internet + TV = $89.98/mo for the first year, etc.
Internet + TV + Phone = $89.97/mo for the first year, etc.
...huh? Why is bundling phone service such a detriment that they actually cut a whole penny off the price?
I will continue to dig.

I feel like of all of the instruments you can force your child to practice, guitar should be the easiest, because knowing how to play it ups your coolness factor. But no, I still have to sit here and stare at my son to make sure he does it.

I suppose this is my burden to bear since I made him join jazz band instead of just playing for fun. It's the one extra curricular I force on him, because otherwise he'd never leave his room.

I recommend calling them and seeing what else they offer, Charter most enrollment reps will be able to check every offer in your area (including ones you may not know about, or have access to).

He's probably not old enough to realize just how much easier it will be for him with girls once he hits high school if he can play the guitar.

Or he might not like it. I still haven't forgiven my parents 100% for forcing the violin on me for 15 years.

Of course the violin scores 0 points with the ladies.

You know some very different ladies than I do. Or women who think they're ladies.
It may not be as easy to show off as guitar or piano, but being good at playing the violin is definitely a good way to get into some girls' pants. And usually the more culturally-inclined, smarter/better educated, prettier kind.

He likes the guitar, he doesn't like jazz band. But he doesn't like ANYTHING that isn't playing on his computer all day, so he's overruled. [emoji14]

If he does like the guitar, I'd say it's worth it to have him try different environments/groups/clubs where he can play it... A good conductor/team coach/trainer/teacher/leader/whatever can make a big difference in the enjoyment of a hobby, after all. Perhaps it's because of personal stuff or the time slot or style of whoever's in charge that he's not overly fond, and he's like it more/do more with it if dropped in a death metal band or a string quintet or whatever?
Besides, enjoy it while you can still plug him behind a pc, once he's discovered how cool a guitar can be, you may go back to wishing he was alone in his room :p

It's literally because all he wants to do is play with his computer all day. He's autistic. Even when we suggest activities he does like, he'll reject them because it's not Minecraft. ;)

Got $100 on Monday from grandma for birthday/Xmas.

This morning car starts waaay too loud, plus a whole lot of rattling when applying throttle or idling in gear.

Flex pipe. $90. Merry freaking Christmas. :(

Don't have any. Besides, the plumber is coming today. Maybe it'll stop running constantly and actually flush right now.

I'm glad you all found a valve to vent your puns through, but given the volume the trap they were stuck in must have been quite large, and I expect you're plumb tuckered out by now. Now that you're seated maybe we can close the lid on this discussion and wipe the slate clean. If we finally have movement in another direction we will all surely be relieved.

Unless you're in an irish band. Then fiddles rule.[DOUBLEPOST=1449187719,1449187681][/DOUBLEPOST]

I so know how this is.
