Funny (political, religious) pictures

I don't get why the US and Canada don't just tie their currencies together. I guess now it wouldn't be good for the US, but at some point they're going to be equal again.
Canada keeps clinging to this bizarre and quaint notion that they are their own autonomous country with their own interests.

. . . I knew I should've stopped at austerity. I watered down the joke, and left that opening.

I think I'm losing it, Gassy.[DOUBLEPOST=1440531959,1440531612][/DOUBLEPOST]
Bah, Canada is just the ultimate American white flight suburb. It's time you started shouldering your part of the financial burden ;)
. . . historically, we've been your English flight suburb, then your black flight suburb, and more recently a peacenik flight suburb. I'm waiting for us to be your pretty lady flight suburb. So hurry up and elect some sexist, ultrareligious president to persecute them on up here.

(I totally take back that thing about election reform.)

I can't wait until they start fining her for it. I wonder how long the public will be willing to pay ever increasing fines for their government official to not do their sworn duty.

That's really the issue. Follow your conscience and resign your position if you don't agree with it.

She won't, because then someone else will do the thing she hates. Instead, she's going to keep denying them until she gets fines... then bigots will give her money to pay the fines. Eventually a judge is going to toss her in jail but that's fine, that makes her a martyr for her cause which somehow makes her right, even if the cause is to cause misery to people she barely knows for ill-defined reasons. This is the Social Conservative mindset: it's better to hurt truly others than be slightly offended.

That's also the Liberal mindset, though.
That's the RADICAL Social/Tumblr Liberal mindset. The mainstream Liberal mindset wanted gay marriage to be legal because there was no compelling reason for it not to be... and there were more than social reasons to do it. Economically, it would give greater stability to more households and encourage more confidence in a group that previously had to keep large savings in case of emergency (because one spouse could not share insurance with another, they had to get their own, lesser version). The only thing that was gained by preventing it was a smug sense of satisfaction from a religious community.

Really, the moment you put social issues in front of ether conservative or liberal positions, you go into really, REALLY stupid territory.

She shouldn't go to jail, she should be fired. End of story.
She's appointed, I believe, so the Judge CAN'T remove her from her position. He would have already if he could.

She can only be removed by a group of conservative lawmakers who basically agree with her. Fuck the rule of law, my imaginary 2000 year old friend says I'm right.

So the question is, who can remove her from office?

The voters/people she serves? Yeah, right. Even Gas can tell you how small county electorate would take any sort of recall election against this chicky-boo. Even if they managed to get enough signatures to force a recall, who'd want to run against her? And would that person even come close to winning?

Whoever appointed her, if the job's an appointed one? They'd only do it if it was politically advantageous. Betting that the person's a Republican, I doubt it severely.

The Governor? Well, Beshear is a Democrat, but I'm not sure what he can do under state law. Send in the National Guard?[DOUBLEPOST=1441230386,1441230092][/DOUBLEPOST]Google gives you all sorts of interesting stuff (this via NPR):

According to procedures set forth by the Supreme Court of Kentucky, the only way for Davis to be removed from her position is if the Circuit Court Clerks Conduct Commission recommends that course of action to the chief justice and the chief justice agrees.
That process is complicated and would very likely take a long time.

Basically, the only thing that CAN happen is she can be held in contempt. If she violates the order, the judge gets to fine her or confine her until she complies.

Which will only spur people who agree with her to send gobs of money to support her against "the socialist homosexual liberal agenda". (as described in the comments section in too many articles on gay marriage topics)

Then comes the Fox News interviews. She'll be the new Joe the Plumber.

The SCOTCOK can, eventually, remove her from office for "official misconduct or otherwise improper conduct" - but only after an investigation is started by the 5C, and after a maximum of 120 days.

IOW - the clock only starts ticking when the Commission officially starts its investigation, and that could result in nothing until next year.

I hope that your are just pissed about how she dresses because she had a clerk job, because my husband goes to work in tee shirts and jeans every day. ;)
