The EPIC WIN Thread 3: SON OF EPIC

Booyah! Got a royalty cheque from my publisher today. Not much - $39 - but it's still nice to get. I think this was from the sales of the short story collection that came out last year featuring three of my short stories. Though I believe I got another cheque before that, as well.

It's still surreal to say that I'm getting royalty cheques for my work.

I understand. I feel similarly about google actually paying me money for my youtube videos.

Basically you get a Google adsense account, give it your bank info, link it to your YouTube profile, and enable monetization. Google starts showing advertisements on your videos, and they give you a 10 percent cut of the revenue which builds up in your adsense account until the balance is at least $100. Then it gets direct deposited into your bank account.

Pretty much all of my ad revenue comes from my space engineers tutorials.

This is pretty much how the ads on my website work, too, with the added complexity of having to add some html/iframe code to your site to create a placeholder for the ads.

Used to bring in a couple thousand a year. Now it's a couple hundred, and I'm surprised at that amount. Nearly everyone has adblockers these days

I also used it on my gaming blog back in the day but my balance never broke the $25 mark.

Don't know if this is epic, minor, rant or whatever but life is crazy sometimes.

I'm an avid Yelper, amongst the Montreal elite and I tend to go to every Yelp event I can. A few months back for Halloween I had an Yelp event at a hotel with 300+ people, I went with a pair of Yelp friends and it was an awesome night. As an elite, free drinks, lots of socializing and these things were my sanity check for the last year or so...to disconnect, you know?

I threw on my chef outfit and got a horse head to top it all off. As a 6'4 giant with a huge horse head... let's say I got a lot of attention and shitload of pictures taken of me.

During this evening, I bumped into this lady, mid-20ies.... dressed as sailor mars and she was ROCKING it. My friend was totally like WHOA THIS GIRL IS AMAZINGLY HOT. This was true. He chickened out to talk to her but I didn't give a shit to chat someone up (no expectations - being married and all does fucking wonders when you get rejected or not)... she's actually pretty nice. Then her Asian friend who's dressed up like a crazy doll starts being pretty cute with me, lots of pictures, she's hilarious, become immediate yelp friends. (she's not elite, barely 20 or so reviews...).

I chatted with her once or twice since and that was the end of that.

Tonight, I go to a work dinner as one of the employees in our office has moved on to a new career opportunity. We're at this nice steakhouse and my boss (a woman of about 50) walks in with her daughter of about 25.... she looked awfully familiar but I just couldn't quite place it. She's nice and all and we're chatting over the evening then I mentioned to her I'm an avid Yelper and she's like, hey, I went to this Yelp event a few months ago.... I'm like cool which one?

Halloween.

I'm like.... hey me too! Look at my profil pic on Yelp.

HORSE CHEF GUY!!!!

She's ecstatic.

I'm like eh?

I was Sailor Mars.

HOLY SHIT.

We spent the entire night chatting and freaking couldn't get over the irony of it all.

A city of 4 million.

I bump into this girl again randomly... who also happens to be my new boss's daughter.

Ridiculous.

Then she shows me her phone...

I knew I got countless pictures of me that night (100+) ... but to see it on someone's phone who I never expected to meet again?

Just booked another gig for our improv troupe. $800 for a game show night in Kansas City. The lady I talked to said her friend from Chicago was going to do the same kind of event and would be contacting me. That will be a $2000 gig. This is going to be an awfully busy spring/summer!

Once you're playing a regular show in Vegas every night, don't forget about us, 'kay? :)
