Looks like I'm in the Radiation Barrier region of the Dominion of the Devils.

I'm not sure how I feel about this news.

On the plus side, maybe I can befriend the Killer Whale Raiders.

I got sunburn on my back yesterday. Tonight I'm sitting in my house with a jacket on because the ac is making me freeze. It's 77 in my house and my fingers are purple.

Kinda fuck that guy.

Does anyone remember a commercial where a guy took off his prosthetic nose? I remember seeing it as a kid on Kids WB or something like and it freaked me the hell out.

Dammit all, I SHOULD be in bed. I work tomorrow.

And yet, I'm working on the final chapters of THE DAME WAS A TAD POLISH...and holy shit, I can't stop! I'm taking a very brief break right now.

Just tonight alone, I'm already pushing towards 3,000 words written!

Grand total right now? 57,141! I'M SO CLOSE.

Sounds like you're having prom night flashbacks, Nick. :D

Seriously though, good on you! Get that bad boy written!

Want a small sneak peak?

Now, you’re probably asking, Did it hurt? Well, funny thing about that…
“AHHHHHHHHHHHHH!” I screamed in agony.

Aaaaaand at 3,700 words written just tonight, I'm calling it a night. One chapter left to write to finish this puppy.

Current total: 58,000 words.

Bah. Arguing on the internet is so pointless. Trying to prove to someone who does actually appear to know something about probability that the gamblers fallacy does not apply to Malaysian airlines because the disappearance of 370 caused regulation changes. He wants to argue that the events are still independent and therefore the maintenance has no bearing. But it does. It changed the probability which has little to do with independence. They are still independent events but the probability itself has shifted. I went full math nerd

Earlier in the week we had a station's automation workstation go down. Well, we have a contingency plan for that, so we pull the voicetracking machine from the VT studio and stick it in place of the Oldies station machine, and bada bing, back on the air. Weekend/overnight jocks gotta do their voicetracking in the production studio, but that's a minor inconvenience.

This morning, our Urban hip-hop automation workstation suffers a similar motherboard failure. This is more dire. Now we have to pull the workstation from the production studio and put it in the urban studio... but now it's back on the air.

But that means now there is NO voicetracking availability, or even the ability to lay down the voice for commercials. Fortunately, me and the engineer dig around in the back and find this USB mic in a box and hook it up to my PC in my office. So. For the next few days, my office is the production studio. It's a pain in the ass but I guess it comes with the territory when your title is "IT and Production Director."

What scares me is we got 5 stations, and all 5 of these machines were bought with identical hardware at the same time. Two have died within a week of each other... if we lose a 3rd, we have no suitable backup hardware left. None. Wideorbit's going to overnight us replacement machines... but it being friday, it'll probably be monday before the engineer gets them.

Also, those Snowball mics are fairly reliable. I'd be curious as to why these systems are failing.

Also, props for posting the tire swing UI graphic. It's a classic.

Amazon prime comes with two day shipping. You could have had that other automation workstation back up and running before the other failed.

Slacker.
You can't buy these things on amazon. Plus, it's under warranty.[DOUBLEPOST=1405716442,1405716212][/DOUBLEPOST]
I almost bought that mic set up just for vent/gaming.
It's actually a bit on the quiet side unless you're up against the puff guard and really projecting your voice. I'd still recommend the Zalman ZM-MIC1 over this for voip/gaming.

Because we bought them all together at the same time approximately 4-5 years ago and they've all been on 24/7 since then under heavy use.

Wideorbit's fault for not embracing THE FUTURE.
Apparently the issue is their production is backed up with emergency orders already. Our engineer actually offered to drive the 3.5 hours from here to there himself if he could get the workstation today, but they told him it wouldn't be ready.

But yeah, there's no reason to embrace the future (or in any other way bust your hump) when you've pretty much bought most of your competition and are now almost the only game in town.

Sounds like the field is ripe for more competition...
It'd definitely be a good way to go for personal enrichment. If your automation starts to catch on, you can bet WideOrbit will drive a dump truck full of money up to your door and say "So.. wanna sell?"

Also, for a consumer-grade mic, I think the fact that they lasted about 40k hours of constant use is actually pretty impressive.

Oh yeah, hah, I do have that on my wall, I had forgotten it.. not even realized it was in the picture. I've got other funny things there, too. A couple XKCDs, the "If Tetris has taught me anything, it's that errors pile up while accomplishments disappear" thing, and the IT motto:

"Led by the unknowing, we are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much for so long with so little, we can now do virtually anything with nothing!"

Also, I see now we had a failure of communication.. the mics did not fail, the motherboards in the workstations failed. This is actually the only snowball we have. The others in the various studios are the more conventional 1/4" inch jack mics. The snowball was purchased some years ago for a PD who no longer works here so that he could record things in his office.

If the Internet has taught me anything, it is to fully vet any picture I post, lest it lead to ... embarrassing situations.

I really did try to figure out what that Tetris one was saying, but couldn't deconvolve it enough (no tools at work) to figure it out.

I'm all for "yay redhead!" anything, but what is up with the awkward pose? I still can't figure out what position she's trying for. Crawl-flying?
