Whine like a baby, now with 500% more drama!

My mom's going to have to put her cat down. He has cancer. She only found the lump a week ago, and it turns out it's metastatised through his body already. This is the cat that she bottle fed as a kitten when he was premature and supposed to not live more than 6 months. It's been 7 years. And it sucks.

I got rejected from a job I applied to. Fuckers. I still have an interview on Sunday for another one (previously mentioned in Epic wins), but I'm still bitter about the rejection.

Update: the kitty is no more. Fuck today.

Original schedule had me coming in at 8pm this coming Friday. As a trade, I'd come in at midnight on Wednesday and 1am tonight.

Around 3pm I get a text saying all days come in at the usual time. So much for sleeping in. :(

The power is out. I have learned not only is the air conditioner not on the generator circuit, but neither are any of the tertiary systems on the tower. That means the building has no internet even though the network is functioning all the way to the Gateway, and, oh yeah, the flashing Beacon lights on the tower don't work either. Good thing it's winter and daytime.

So they DID cut the internet!

And as I surmised, it would indeed cause bigger problems :p

Fortunately, one of our engineers had his own small gas generator, so now it's back on again. Internet during a power outage. Wooo!

The beacons are lit! Gondor calls for aid!
Well, they aren't, but at least now, we could.

My nerves are a little on edge from all the squalling cries of the dying UPSes in rooms that aren't important enough to merit generator backup. I mean, there's nothing to be done for it and it won't really hurt anything, but a reflex is a reflex.

Also it's starting to get rather muggy in here...

My vacations were supposed to start March 1st, 15-30 days plus carnaval that will start the last 4 days of february. Now the mayor declared emergency in the city because the extra strong rain season we are having and all vacations are suspended. I guess they would probably need a dba/coder for something?

Going skiing this weekend, went online to reload our Epic Day passes, LIFT TICKETS ARE SO EXPENSIVE WAAAAAAH. At least my daughter gets free lift tickets because Epic does that for grades 3-5, and my son gets an adaptive season pass, which costs less than 3 days of lift tickets for an adult. We'd get season passes for ourselves if we actually skied more, but I-70 can suck a dick.

I am less worried about that and more annoyed about the bottleneck that is the fucking Eisenhower tunnel. That said, I am never the one actually driving when we go to the mountains. :p
I'm never the one driving, but I still worry about it. Especially that time it was my grandfather driving. I left a spike on the seat cushion, that trip.

I have learned to close my eyes and ignore the world around me. It only took one trip up and down Pike's Peak.

Heh my experience with I-70 is the portion in Missouri where it is flat, straight, easy driving for four hours. I guess it picks up a bit in the west.

I actually liked driving in the mountains, it's very beautiful. It's the people that drove like maniacs around me that gave me pause.

I wish I could learn not to google health stuff. I would love to have a bit more self control in that area. I've got myself all worked up for my next specialist appointment and it's two weeks away.

I can get 4 layer circuit boards in prototype quantities (1-100) for about $60 each or less in a week or two.

So when I gave a client an estimate for flexible circuit boards I figured I'd be safe multiplying that by 10, so about $600.

I just got some ballpark estimates back now that we have some design parameters and my first ballpark estimate is another factor of ten at $6,000. Granted, that's for 12 panels of boards, or about 200 individual PCBs once the panels are cut apart, but still, an outlay of $6,000 just for one part of the prototype (and not the actual circuit assembly where the components are soldered to the boards) is going to be surprising to them since I've underestimated significantly.

This is from a premier PCB fabrication company, though (they can do stuff that's measured in the micrometers on these circuit boards) so I'm desperately hoping that one of the other 6 companies I contacted tonight will have something better to offer...

But we may just have to bite the bullet and go with rigid circuit boards. Given the way the design has evolved over time it probably isn't necessary to have it in flex.

Anyway. Wah, wah, wah, I underestimated by an order of magnitude. I'll be wearing the dunce cap when I walk into the meeting tomorrow. Also I spent these last two weeks on hardware, and not software, so I'm behind on the firmware, and my next check doesn't come until it's done. My wife is tapping her fingers at me about it.

I can imagine. This does not sound like a proper Valentine's Day gift.

Christ, these panels in SEX CRIMINALS #16 (just out today). It doesn't hit close to home. It bashes in the front fucking door.

Like, it perfectly encapsulates how I feel about my life these days. I'm that afraid to have any kind of goals, plans, or ambition anymore.

In a meeting with my two female staff and I'm explaining that tomorrow's meeting will require them to come forward with some creative ideas. I end this discussion with.

"So I hope you two will bring your breast........best brain cells to the meeting."

"Get out of my office before I embarrass myself further."

I'm without my primary underling today because her uncle cut up his hand real bad and had to go to the hospital, and Underling #1 is apparently the only member of her family who knows English well enough to fill out paperwork at the hospital and deal with the doctors.

*sigh* Girlfriend's gone to a party that would end at around 03 AM, I offered to pick her up. I was all set to leave (at 2:15 AM, it's a 45 minute drive) and she just texted me that she's going to go home with a colleague and they'll text me when they're there- it's "easier for me" to pick her up there because it's closer by...and they're leaving around 3:15AM.
So instead of being in front of the venue at 3 AM, I'l lbe at some random person's front door at 4:15 AM - if I'm lucky, because while the colleague lives closer by, she lives far further from the highway, so the drive time's actually longer.
I was looking forward to being in bed by 3:45 :(

Does it say something about my place of work that I called in tonight, two days before my vacation starts, because I didn't want to get forced to work overtime Saturday morning?

If I have to listen to my mother ascribe wondrous curing properties to Airborne one more time, I might lose my shit.

My mother constantly bitches about everyone else playing the victim, but no one fucking plays the victim better than her. Every time my parents come visit I remember why I don't want to live near my mother.

I feel your pain, which is why I live 2000 miles away from my family.

The constant threat of polar bear attack is also good for keeping them away.
