He announced that he had cancer last year two years ago, but kept touring as much as he could.

He wasn't my favorite singer but some of the songs he did were good. He more stood out to me with his support of the troops and their families.

He was a regular fixture around Norman. He and Bob Stoops had the biggest houses around.

Even aside from the political drama, I always felt a little bit of kinship with Toby Keith for "I ain't as good as I once was." That's pretty much been the story of my life since the late 30s >_<

I was not a fan, but he made me laugh a few times. He seemed like a decent fella. This interview confirmed it.
