Rant VIII: The Reckoning

I ordered a Team USA baseball jersey on Amazon. Never got it. Each time I check on the shipment, the arrival date changes. The tracking code does not work.

I wish Amazon would quit posting fly by night sellers on their site. This is the second time I've been ripped off my a 3rd party on Amazon.
Amazon is REALLY good about this stuff.

After one bad experience I'm really careful about ordering things that aren't prime now. A newer scam is that they intentionally send the item (or something) to the wrong address, thus they can show amazon the package was delivered, presumably giving them more time to run their scams before amazon deletes their account.

That said, I got an $800 thermal camera last year for $400 from a new seller, knowing that Amazon would refund it if it was a scam and I'm glad I took the chance, and that amazon didn't make it too hard for the seller to list their items.

I'm fascinated by your thermal camera and the portrait and macro possibilities.

Does it accept SLR lenses?
No, and it wouldn't help anyway, longwave IR doesn't go through glass. It's an FLIR E4 with a fixed lens. They do offer thermal cameras with interchangeable lenses but then you're up in the tens of thousands of dollars area.

Also it helps that over the last few years I've accidentally made myself sort of indispensable to the company.
If there's any form of nepotism/favoritism that can occur in your company, never assume this. If your company is starting to swirl around the drain, there's always somebody that will throw you under the bus.

Did I say mom had to have four extractions done? I meant five.

And when the doctor asked if she wanted only half done now, she said do them all. [emoji30][emoji30]

Do you remember my recent rants? The ones where my doctor lacks basic math skills and never gets my pain medication prescriptions right? My last nine prescriptions were wrong and I had to fight with the pharmacy for each one and at one point I was without my prescription for a while and that was horrible.

I saw him today and I remind him that I need a new one. I also got a tip recently from the pharmacist, so I ask him to write on it that it can be released immediately. He does that and he does it for thirty days. Easy math! It works. I was happy. I get to the pharmacy and they double check the math and it's all good. I go to run my errands and get a call from them. My drug plan won't pay. FFS. My plan is amazing and due to my infusions, I've already triggered my catastrophic coverage, so I'm confused. They won't refill a prescription until the current one is 2/3 done. My current prescription of my pain medication is for two days. Yes. Two whole days because my doctor can't do math. I guess noon on the second day was too soon to fill it. Due to this silly rule, I actually ran out tonight before they allowed a refill.

FML.

I've had pain med prescriptions for both surgery and chronic pain and let me tell you, chronic pain patients are treated like shit in comparison. Sometime I'll describe my first visit to the pain clinic and the interrogation, pee test and general harassment I was treated to. I just want to hand in my prescriptions and be handed back a bag of medication. I don't want to have to feel like I have to beg for each one. I don't want to be inconvenienced any further by having to fight with my doctor's office, the pharmacy and/or my insurance plan to get this medication I'd like because I enjoy activities such as walking, sitting and the occasional two or three consecutive hours of sleep.

Did I say nine of us with baseball bats? I meant eighteen. It sucks that there's nothing I can do to straighten those people out except express a desire for beatings. :(

Nonsense. Plan a heist of a casino, split the pot 19 ways including Squidley. This might lead us to have to pay it back to an angry casino owner in a few years' time which causes us to have to think of even bigger heists, but still.

There was a guy I grew up with who when we both went to BBSs and other such things (we were huge nerds) back in the day, his Username was "Nobody."

Could be out of a job by the end of June if nothing changes before then. At least I'm in a department that will keep going until the very last second. Question is, do I cut my losses now while the situation is still fluid, or try to ride it out until things become more clear?

Now is the time to job search on company time, my friend!

One thing I am keeping in mind, since the end is not an absolute certainty, if I bail too soon I could miss out on a week's paid vacation. I'm thinking of seeing what happens between now and the university commencement in mid-May.

Start looking for a job now. While you're at home and during work hours. A week worth of paid vacation is nice, but not as nice as finding a new, stable job in a hotel before all of your colleagues do.

That was the big problem when our old office closed, there very few places with work in our field.

Don't wait to start looking. Heck, you can even go to jobs with a start date of the end of June considering that sending a resume, to interview, to acceptance, to "I need to give notice and/or finish out my old job" can EASILY run 3 months. I doubt you'll lose anything by at least looking right now.

Heck, take the time to polish up your resume. https://www.righteverywhere.com is the company that my previous employer set me up with when I got canned. A lot of good advice and services there (they have resume specialists), though it's not free.

FOR FUCKS SAKE, CAN ANYTHING ACTUALLY GO RIGHT IN MY LIFE FOR A CHANGE?

So, I quit that fibre op splicing job after the first day of training when I learned that the work wouldn't be local, that the hours would be 50-60 hours a week, and 10+ hour days. That's not what I signed up for.

I called Income Assistance to inform them and guess what? Because I quit the job, I'll probably be penalized 6-8 weeks. Meaning I might not get any cheques for TWO FUCKING MONTHS.

I'm done. I give up. I can't do this anymore.
