Rant VIII: The Reckoning

Tumblr is having a meltdown over a comic book tie-in to a videogame. All I have to say about that right now is...

FUCK OVERWATCH.
Watching that type of fire burn is the funniest thing for me. "Bloo bloo bloo my favorite character's canon sexuality is not an exact match of my imagination's, and I was too malnourished as a child to now imagine better without also loudly complaining."

AUGH

There's been a massive dropping of the ball at my station, and I'm partially to blame.

After the Cowboys game got out at 1am on monday... the system was carelessly left in Manual mode by our board operator, instead of Automatic.

So no commercials were airing.

Normally there's a failsafe to check this. It was not properly coded by the engineer, so it didn't go off.

Normally I'd check to make sure everything was ok after the game when I come in, but this week is super busy what with the upcoming long xmas weekend, and there hadn't been any problems the last 5 times I had checked, so I didn't check this time.

Normally Wookiee would check every tuesday, but he was out sick tuesday.

So basically, the station has been running only music since monday. No commercials have aired until the problem was caught this morning.

We're scrambling to cram in all the Christmas-oriented commercials today and tomorrow. It's a big clusterfuck. >_<

Well, I guess we're about to undo that with 3 days of double density commercials :p
No kidding. Hopefully most your listeners are office workers and they're all leaving early today to go Christmas shopping, and so don't notice, and tomorrow's their office Christmas party and they put on their Taylor Swift Xmas album instead of the radio.

When the commercials were not airing, was there radio silence for 2.5 minutes?
No, about 20 seconds before the engineer's failsafe kicked in. That's part of the problem - the dead air alarm goes off after 30 seconds of dead air, and stays noisy until somebody does something about it. But with the failsafe kicking off at 20, no alarm ever went off, so nobody knew there was a problem until somebody was lucky enough to tune in at the right time and heard the dead air this morning. If here hadn't been a failsafe (or if it had been set to go off on a longer delay than the dead air alarm), this would have been fixed monday morning before any real damage was done.[DOUBLEPOST=1482429264,1482429118][/DOUBLEPOST]

Meh. There's an argument to be made that it doesn't matter how long the commercial break is, everybody changes the channel when they hear the first one and don't come back until the other station starts up a commercial break. And we're not increasing the number of breaks, just the length... so, it might be possible that it won't "sound" any worse than normal to most listeners.

I like that no one at your station listens to your station.

Like's probably not the right word, but you know what I mean.

Yeah, I've been to a few stations and they always have themselves on using a real radio near someone.

But that assumes the station is worth listening to, soooo.....

I would've thought it was a given that someone would be tuned in at the station. For quality assurance. Apparently no one cares about the product at WEWK.

I would kill to have a station near me not play ads. Ads are the reason I pay $5 a month to a company to stream music to me ad-free.

So I get a phone call tonight from one of the guys in my Fantasy Football league. I didn't answer it because we were getting ready to leave tomorrow morning. I listened to the voicemail and really wish I'd have answered it. His brother - who is also in the league - fell and hit his head in the bathroom. His wife found his body this morning at 4 am. The guy who died is currently in the 3rd or 4th place game. His brother was making sure he could get a lineup in.

Dude has been in the league for about 10 years. I know him but can't say he's a friend. But his brother and nephew are still here. I did call him back to talk to him and the last thing he said was, "Merry Christmas."

Dude. I feel sorry for him but there's nothing I can really say or do.

I use Okay Google to tell my phone to play a song from Youtube, which is then broadcast from a Bluetooth speaker. Sometimes I have to deal with ads, which I can't skip because I'm driving.

I tell you, you haven't truly lived until you've experienced driving down the highway while singing along to Broadway soundtracks at the top of your lungs.

Alright! I've lived!

Now that I've got an iphone, I actually use it to play music in the car.

Yeah, I could've done the same thing on Android. But I never did for some reason.

. . . I always enjoyed watching movies in a near empty theater. I don't need a crowd's energy to enjoy a movie, I need people to shut the fuck up with the popcorn munching and soda slurping.

Not that I watch anything in the theatre anymore, either, though. Movies just aren't good like they used to be back in the day.

God fucking damn it. At a doctor's appointment for my 5 month old to get a tongue tie corrected and we have two insurances (blue cross blue shield and the baby has Medicaid as well) we scheduled the appointment and gave them all the insurance info (they don't take Medicaid, no big deal) and they told us it would be 80 bucks. We show up at the appointment to and lo and behold since they don't take Medicaid and we didn't tell them that they baby has it (we did) we are now on the hook for the full 550 for the appointment, but don't worry me, they will work with us and only charge us 300 instead... Yeah thanks guys... Hopefully I'll be able to swing that with all of the other bills I have because the tongue tie is affecting the babies quality of life when it comes to eating and growing the way she is suppose to (50 percentile on height but only 1 percentile on weight for babies her age) and it's causing mom a lot of stress when trying to feed her and causing reflux with the baby, and gas and a host of other issues) we could take her to a non specialist that takes Medicaid as well but there are no doctors in our area that specialize in her type of tie in the area unless I want to drive 3 hours to Dallas when. This doctor is already an hour and a half drive from where I am.. Sigh.. I hate all this bullshit
