My vote would go for either Zatanna or Ivy. But if your first instinct is Lara, and you have a strong leaning towards that, then I think you should do that. You're a better judge than we are, and its your passion going into it.

But also, tophats are cool.
MAYBE I COULD DO BOTH?? The convention is three days after all. ;)

I think it's fun that you guys are in favor of Zatanna. =^^= I too think top hats are cool. Plus, she furthers my 'cosplay every Batman villian/anti-hero forever!' vibe I've got going. So, I'm not opposed. I do think most people won't know who I am since a lot of convention goers out here are...uh..casual fans. :) Imma start researching stuff today, just to check it out.

If you go the Zatanna route, I'd suggest making a false bottom in the hat and stick a stuffed bunny in there or learning how or making a fanned deck. Play up the whole magician thing.

If you don't have the time, I would go with Scarecrow.
If you do have the time, I would vote for Zatanna. Not because of all the other people talking about it, but because it would be something new.
It also sounds like something you could pull off without having to build a really complicated outfit.
You'll need a black wig, though. Also you will need to practice saying things backwards.
If you want to go all the way back in time to the original intro of the character, you can find the original outfit (and a quick retrospective) here.

That reminds me, a quick fix for people that don't recognize the character. Just have a nametag that reads "Hello, my name is Annataz"

I'd be heavily in favor of Zatanna as well.

1) top hats are awesome
2) it's a fairly straight-forward costume, in that it's clothing
3) very cool character anyway
4) you would totally rock it

downsides:
1) walking around a convention in heels. Ouch.

Well, I think it's a done deal!! Zatanna it is! :D

Plus I already own a lot of the pieces for it - all I need is to make the vest and coat tails, and get a hat and wand.

Thanks guys!

I have no where else to rage.

Sometimes....cosplaying is haaaaaarrd. :( I've spent multiple weeks now trying to find suitable fabric from my Kyla Ren robe to NO AVAIL. There's actually a shortage of black basket weave fabric pretty much everywhere. Damn you popular characters! And damn you tall people (you know, because they need more of the fabric)! I'm not one for screen accuracy, but that fabric has such a distinctive weave I feel like I should at least get something close. HNnnnnn...I just want to find my fabric and continue on in my bliss.

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU.

Hit Al's Formal Wear and buy a fat boy, retired rental tux and cut it down for fabric...

I don't...I don't know what you're talking about? There's no such thing as a tux with such a large basket weave design. Though, it is a good idea to go look at old suits, I may come across something useful - secondhand shops and what not. :D THE SEARCH CONTINUES!

Pretty sure he's confusing your outfits. ;)

  • A Sorry, I didn't get an alert for being tagged :(
  • B Zatanna sounds cool so go with it
  • C For something fairly simple, I think you could use your shoes with wings on, combined with a toga style robe and a helmet/ laurel wreath for a Female Hermes character thing.

Guys. I'm beyond excited for Zatanna. Like in a really weird way that I didn't expect. =^^= So thank you for encouraging me to go with her. :D

(Nate says the plain pumps look better than the thigh highs, so that's what I'm going with. =^^=)

(Weeee bad phone pictures!!! I'm still excited regardless.)

(IMMA BE SUCH A DAPPER BAD MAGICIAN! I CAN'T WAIT!! :D)

I can't wait, either. It looks like you're going to pull off a delightful Zatanna cosplay.

the pumps give a better over all look. ALL THE LEG.
Seeing as how your legs are not cartoon WB-ish "makes-up-sixty-percent-of-your-height" length, I agree that the pumps are the better choice, unless you want to stretch your femora for a few extra inches (which would actually take about 9 months and is not recommended), though I think that could be too much dedication to the character.

Went clubbing over the weekend. I think I fit right in! :D (The theme was Alice in Wonderland.)

Because I can barely take anything seriously, I took the opportunity to ruin our photo booth pictures:

So, con is next week and I'm having another dilemma. I'm not sure what to wear the first day, which is the day we get in to town. I've narrowed it down to something comfy and easy to wear: MJ or Ramona Flowers (I'd have to crank out a hammer and bag but with Nate helping me I think I could get it done. I already have everything else for it.)

So what would you guys rather see?? Help me!

Wow. I'm not sure whether I'm supposed to see the Cheshire Cat or Venom in those pictures :p I'm not sure I mean venom, actually, that mouth just really reminds me of another character and I can't place it.[DOUBLEPOST=1458401255,1458401100][/DOUBLEPOST]

"Invisible Man, as portrayed by a person without superpowers". Or, "the Emperor". both low-maintenance, easy to make, and definitely comfortable.

...Sorry, a whole month of vacation has left my creepy glands on the fritz.

Haha, not helpful! Your choices were MJ or Ramona Flowers. ;)

Also, as for the mouth, most people say Mileena from Mortal Kombat.

I don't know about that. Wouldn't a llama costume be a little hard to pull together on short notice?

Also, I vote for Ramona.
