For Gasbandit: Windows XP lives again! (activation key algorithm discovered)

A blog post on tinyapps has revealed the hot news that nobody sane has been waiting for: the algorithm that Microsoft uses to validate Windows XP product keys has been cracked and reimplemented. As a result it's now possible to generate valid activation codes for Windows XP, without an internet connection, even though Microsoft has turned off all the activation servers.

I mean, I was perfectly capable of pirating XP regardless of validation methods :p What got me to stop using XP was their refusal to make a 64 bit version of it.

So, if the hackers could go ahead and finish fleshing out XP 64, that'd be great, thanks :p

I will happily bookmark this against the possible future reinstallation of my XP machine(s?).

Also I'm with Gas about XP64. It was actually an amazing OS that wasn't stillborn so much as aborted, I assume because of the whole lack of baked-in DRM thing.
