Dave,

I just ate eco-friendly, health store grain cereal with a rice beverage instead of milk. Am I a hippie?

Dear Grue,

No, you are not a hippie. However, you are probably a dumb consumer. Most of those "eco-friendly" and "pure organic" products taste worst and spoil faster than conventionally grown items, they use more land and are actually less safe. There's a reason why food science has taken great leaps over the years and the recent move towards the no science approach amazes me.

You're not a hippie, but you are probably paying 3-4 times as much for items which are either no better than or worse than what you would normally get anywhere else.

Dave was around back when they did things the no-science way, so he's seen the progress first hand. Crop rotation is genius, he tells ya!

That would be the mainstream lifestyle, then :pout:

So how do I break away from the madding crowd and forge my own lifestyle?
go gay, and as a bonus, the thread title will be much less misleading.
omg west baptist was right! it IS a choice! Just like BDSM!
Wait, BDSM is a choice? The gimp and I are going to have to have a long heart to heart next time I let him out of the box.

This is kinda half true. Produce grown on local farms that use less pesticides, grown in season always taste better than mass marketed, genetically engineered stuff. That said, humans have been screwing around with food science since the bible times -when Dave was around 200 years old, so it's inaccurate for these organic marketers to claim that their food is all natural because most if not all the produce and domesticated livestock humans use have been cultivated and manipulated by man for thousands of years.

I agree though. If you're paying 3X more for organic tomatoes, you're an idiot. Just wait till they're in season and sold locally for 1/3 the supermarket price.

Yeah. Um. I actually just bought a cereal that's packaged in only a plastic bag and tried out some rice beverage that's an alternative to the soy beverages that are an alternative to milk.

I also bought an almond beverage as an alternative to that rice beverage. I'm kinda curious how rice and almonds get turned into a milk-like beverage. Dave?
