Video Game News and Miscellany

I actually had to discuss how this works with a friend of mine.

"So they are betting on Counter Strike pro games? That's pretty lame."
"Well yeah, but you can make money off of it. Hell, it's basically illegal really."
"You can't trade real money on Steam. No money so it's not illegal."
"No, but you can trade rare weapon skins and then put those on the market for real money. That makes the weapon skins akin to gambling chips and thus the whole thing is basically an illegal gambling operation. Valve gets a cut too, so they are complicit in this."
"Did they have to deal with this during Team Fortress 2?"
"With the hats? Yes, and they should have known better then. But without the market in play for much of TF2's life, they could deny involvement since all the deals were happening off site. They can't anymore."
"Isn't this a purely player driven operation?"
"Sure, but that doesn't mean it's okay. Youtubers are advertising this shit to kids. Valve knows this and profits from it."
"Okay yeah... fuck Gaben."

Because I'm haphazardly posting things while waiting for my kids to go on vomit inducing rides without me.

Remember all those cool promises Microsoft made at E3 about all Microsoft published games being crossbuy between PC and Xbox?

THEY WERE LYING!

Honestly, that doesn't seem like much of a rollback. Literally every announced 1st-party game on the Microsoft slate through 2017 is on the Play Anywhere list besides Gigantic, so I suspect this is a CYA move to account for development studios with stuff in the works that don't have their PA shit together. They probably also haven't worked out what they want to do with Halo in 2018, as cross-play with controllers vs. kb/m is not a great idea for traditional FPS.

I agree it's not as awesome a statement as "Everything Play Anywhere, Forever!", and their control of messaging really sucks (and always has), but the adjustment to what people are actually getting seems minimal.

Oh cool, a Pokemon game on mobile devices. Awesome, since I'm currently a little crippled, I would love to play some Pokemon. Oh, it requires me to go places.

"I went to my doctor because I was sure I had crabs and all he did was grab his phone!"

Sorry, I meant Krabbs.

"Pokemon trainers find crotch-dwelling Charmander responsible for itching, burning sensation."
My brother found a Pinsir on his leg, said he felt itchy for the next hour or so. It's kinda funny, really.[DOUBLEPOST=1467914971,1467914928][/DOUBLEPOST]

Best not be messin' with Kingler, he was one of my first 100s in Blue. Dude is a beast.

For a game not out yet, all I can do is shake my head. They can't even give us gameplay information.
This.

I'm sure it'll be a decent game but I can't wait for the inevitable hype train to fall off a wooden bridge into the abyss as everyone thought this game was going to be something else they thought it would be.

I'm still convinced it'll be SPORE all over again.
And I'm glad you said it when you did, because I'd totally forgotten the Spore hype. Changed my stance on No Man's Sky from day-one buy to day-one rent. Will see how good it really is, then make a decision.

I think they have. It pretty just seems to be fly around, explore, gather, collect, name things. I don't think it's much more than a universe simulator. What will be the test for me is how long that takes to get old. I'm definitely in it for the biology, but only 10% of the planets will sustain life. While that still means billions of worlds, that can mean a lot of uninhabited rocks and gas giants.

What I'm most excited for is seeing where their algorithm went wonky and too extreme on some variables, leading to some fucked up weird shit.

Found a minor gameplay bug in Styx. If a Damned heads for you, you can spawn a clone and have it die for you (losing out on the ember to create it, but not a ton of health/ember from being hit).

If, however, you time it so that the clone is being thrown up/spawned as the Damned hits your area, it'll do its death animation without taking the clone with it, meaning you can consume the clone and regain its ember.

What is the line between Pokemon and animal in the pokeverse? Pidgeys just look like birds to me.
