What are you playing?

Fired up Darksiders. (Thank you, THQ bundle) Played the first 30 minutes or so.

Not bad, not bad. The gameplay reminds me of old-school 2D side-scrolling beat-em-ups, like Streets of Rage or Ninja Turtles or the like, except of course it's in 3D.

Loved the hell out of Darksiders 1 and have had Darksiders 2 waiting for me for months now. I think you'll really enjoy the first one fully though, it's just challenging enough to still be fun and engaging. The storyline and characters, while a little cliche, are fantastic.

Borderlands 2. Fuck I love this game. I see Jay on occasionally, but when I was level 15 he and Poe were level 20. Now that I'm level 22 I see him as level 9. Le sigh.

Played Final Fantasy Dimensions on my iPhone. It was free, which I knew was too good to be true, but I figured at most the whole game would be like 5-6 bucks, as it's a Goddamn app.

NOPE

TWENTY FUCKING DOLLARS.

Fuck you, Squeenix. Fuck you in the goat-ass.

It's way more if you buy the rest of the game/characters/classes.

Fallout: New Vegas: I nearly joined the Legion this time, but decided it was against my mechanic character. If I make a psychopath someday, that one can join Caesar's dipshits. Having ED-E is great; I love being able to make more ammo wherever I am. I felt like I wouldn't enjoy this anymore after Skyrim, but I'm having a blast and not missing that beautiful snowy landscape at all... not one bit...

Giving Pokemon Black 2 another go, mainly because my wife now has Pokemon White 2.

I downloaded Skyrim: Dragonborn about a week ago. I'm now level 24 and haven't even touched the dlc yet... It's so easy to get sidetracked. I've put about 200 hours into this game in the past, and I'm still doing tons of quests I've never done before.

If anyone is new to this game, and someone gives you a quest that sounds incredibly mundane and boring, do it anyway. There's a chance it will turn into crazy shit.

Started up The Blackwell Deception the other night. So far I'm loving it like I have the other Blackwell games. The voice acting isn't stellar, but for some reason it works so well for the characters, I just love it. The writing has a very realistic level of snark to it, and there's a nice sense of mystery and it's very grounded for a game about the supernatural. It's so refreshing to play, I think I'll go relax with it for a little now.

I downloaded the demo for Monster Hunter 3 yesterday. I like this game, I really want to play it, but I feel like it's operating on a whole other level. From what I'm reading, the series is not friendly to newcomers and with the limited time I have for video games, I just don't think I want to dedicate the hours it will take just to reach novice for the full game. Which sucks, because if I'd had this when I was younger, I know I would've loved it.

I was confused for a moment, but I have to remind myself that while many people around here look at and use the Disagree button as synonymous with a "Fuck you" button, sometimes people just mean they disagree.

I tried to get into it with the last round of games, and yeah it definitely feels like a super steep learning curve. I'm sure it's a ton of fun but it seems like there's min-maxing on the level of MMOs to get some of the big hunts.

Jay and I played a few hours of Borderlands 2 yesterday. It was pretty eye-opening for me. Actually, I should have expected it. I ran into the same thing during PUGs in WoW. See, I tend to play sneaky or careful characters. In WoW my favorite is a rogue and in Borderlands 2 I play a sniper. So I sneak around a lot and attack from a distance, using terrain and obstacles to minimize the enemy's ability to attack me. Jay on the other hand, runs around like a rabbit on crack with his OMFG SHOTGUN!!! You'd think this would be good because the enemies would concentrate on him, but instead it causes them to run around a lot more and makes them incredibly hard to snipe. I got better at it, but it was tough to get used to.

Still a lot of fun, though!

Impire only has artistry in common with Dungeon Keeper. Apart from that, I found it to be an irritating RTS (and really, once you've played SupCom:FA, EVERY other RTS is irritating) rather than a management sim.

Finally got my hands on a copy of Fire Emblem: Awakening. I'm only a few chapters in, but I do have a few thoughts to share...

Pros:
The game is gorgeous. Great graphics and cutscenes that look great in 3D, too. The battle animations look quite sharp as well.

Grinding is actually pretty doable, a rarity in Fire Emblem. It's possible to get an endless supply of gold/exp very early on. It's just time-consuming.

The classic "death is permanent" feature that serves as the series signature can be turned off, making the game a bit more forgiving.

Your tactician actually plays an active role in the battles now. Normally, characters just interact with your avatar between battles, but it feels like you're getting a free, solid character right off the bat.

The story is good so far. The main villain is a remorseless dick, but he's almost sympathetic. The kingdom you're fighting for actually waged a genocidal crusade against his people just one generation prior. Surprise, surprise, they're pissed, and have genocide on their minds, now. The characters have personality, too, though there are a few types you see all the time in gaming.

There is a boatload of DLC - free and paid - that gives you replay able maps, the ability to buy good weapons, and recruit characters from previous Fire Emblem games. From a nostalgia standpoint, it's a dream come true for the hardcore fans of the series. The fact that new material is added on a regular basis helps keep it fresh. It just feels like there is so much to do.

Cons: That paid DLC is pricey. I'm a diehard, so I dropped the $14 (Yep.) to buy all three major packs, which will cover future DLC, too. It gives you a boatload of material, but it's still a steep price in addition to the price of the game itself.

The voice acting is good, but most of the dialogue for each line is introduced by a grunt or "Hmm", rather than a proper reading of the whole line. It can be grating.

Last night I played Battlefield 1942. Co op with 64 bots, me and the little woman, using the desert combat mod. Still better than anything today, even with retardobots. I wish the aircraft in Planetside 2 were more like the ones in BF1942/DC.

You mean actual aircraft that obey physics instead of VTOL super machines that can pull hundreds of G's with impunity and hover and shoot and completely ruin dogfighting with ridiculous maneuverability?

I have to agree with you about 1942. Even the ridiculous shit like crawling on aircraft wings to transport more guys or dumping tons of det charges into a truck to make it a giant bomb are still amazing.

I was thinking more along the lines of mannable turrets with actually useful ranges of motion other than "straight down" but yeah, I'll endorse what you said, too.
