Video Game News and Miscellany

Here I was deriding the 3DS, noting how it has such a crap line-up and the only good stuff are remakes of N64 titles, including everyone's object of affection Zelda: Ocarina of Time. It's one of my favorite games, but enough--was my opinion.

Then I read on Amazon and realized it wasn't just about putting it in stupid ass 3D. I completely forgot about it being like a normal DS game, with touch screen functionality. Damn. I will have to get a 3DS next model and OoT after all.

I am a few hours into it so far and I must say it stays very close to the source but the few improvements they did (touch screen, upgraded graphics, etc) really does help a lot. Now if you will excuse me I must get back to saving Hyrule.

I hope they didn't change it. Yeah, it kicked my ass when I was a kid, but I eventually did learn the way of thinking that it employs, and while it's still a challenge when I come to it again, it feels natural.

Please, PLEASE tell me they just completely re-did the Water Temple? Even Miyamoto admitted that it was a travesty.
From the Nintendo Power review of the game "...new markings clearly denote the paths that lead to stations where the water level can be changed, as well as which level the stations will change it to."

Nintendo is cutting the price of the 3DS from $250 to $170 in August, likely to combat the low price point for the Vita.

This annoys me cause I already bought my 3DS when it came out for $250. I know they are talking about offering some VC downloads to those who already bought it but still!

20 free digital download games, 10 NES and 10 GBA. Ninty announced 5 of each so far:

NES: Super Mario Bros, Donkey Kong Jr, Balloon Fight, Ice Climber, The Legend of Zelda
GBA: Yoshi's Island, Super Mario Kart: Super Circuit, Metroid Fusion, WarioWare Inc, Mario vs Donkey Kong

I know 20 free digital games is quite nice but I still find it mildly annoying that they are doing such a drastic price cut so short after the launch. They could have had released the system at this new price or very near the new price back when it first came out. We all knew they were over charging for the system but this price cut so close to launch just helps to reiterate how much they were gouging us early adopters. And as I said earlier 20 free digital games is very nice and I know they really didn't even have to do that but it still annoys me cause I would have preferred choosing what I wanted to do with that extra money.

It looks like GOG.com's exclusive on the Baldur's Gate games is over, they're now available on Impulse (as are Icewind Dale and Neverwinter Nights). I'm not sure why anyone would buy them there instead of GOG, but I am interested to know if the games will be showing up anywhere else.
Please be on steam :) I wanna play me some Baldur's Gate and I can't find my CDs :(

Yeah, if GoG had more newer titles (any other than Witcher 2) I would use them exclusively for their lovingly non-existent DRM.

cause I like to keep all my stuff in one place. I got into Steam so gonna keep Steam.
And that's why i mentioned only GoG, because they have no added interface or anything... and when you add shortcuts to them in steams interface they won't need to start another program to run.

My brother and I are fans of Saints Row, and we've been liking what we've seen so far of the third game that's coming out soon. Then we just saw this beginning sequence, and it became a must buy!:

Saints Row 2 was the first time in my life I felt I was free to enjoy myself in (nearly) every demented fantasy I had. It was truly what a Sandbox game should feel like. The customize your own avatar was what really pushed it from amazing to legendary for me. I have been excited for the release of 3 for a while now, I'm only hoping that the update in graphics is not coming at the expense of the very large customization that it had available.

From everything I've seen and heard, the customization will be as rediculous as before. The developers have said a few times that they wanted to go as over the top on this as they could. Man, I sure hope so!

It ran like shit on PC though.

Thank FUCKEN GOD.

Atari were terrible with D&D rights. Hopefully, someone out there will take on the duty and create some half decent games with it.

A 4th edition D&D game would be sexy.

But I'll settle for BG3. :)

Still, fuck Atari. Remember their LAST game? Good god.

Neverwinter sounds cool but 5 classes only? Balls.

If a game dev would define 'mediocre "nameless" brand' the kind you see when you buy Coca-Cola at the market and it's almost flat.... that would be Cryptic Studios.

No fizz.

That's mainly because most of the Cryptic team left during the big City of Heroes split. Most of them stayed on as Paragon Studios and the rest left with Jack Emmert to make Champions Online.
