Is the leather and crystal and fruit and appliances y'alls personal thing? Or is that actually written somewhere as tradition for every anniversary? I always knew like 25th was crystal or something. I had no clue there was one for every single year.
There are several lists that you can find online. My wife and I follow an older style. It's awesome becasue the first anniversary was 'Paper.' All the gifts were expensive back in the day, but now everything is cheap until you get into the 10+ years.

Here's a good list http://www.findgift.com/Anniversary-Table/

We follow the one on the left.

She mentioned earlier that they like to do the 'official' shit you should get on x anniversary.

We try to use both but in the cheapeast way possible.....We can't afford an appliance at the moment but when's he back we're gonna buy a deep freezer for the garage and I will buy my stand mixer lol......I already ate fruit today and I'm sure i'll get flowers when I see him. It's lots of fun to follow the traditions and makes it easier on gift ideas.

Is there a particular reason you guys follow the official anniversary list or just that you think it's a neat idea?

Ok I agree with the Oak and Furniture and Diamonds and shit at 80 .....I also agree at 80 you do just want dried fruit lol !

We follow it just for fun because we don't wanna buy one another the same old stuff we always buy. Flowers , Video Games ,clothes ......Just something to make the day special because we usually don't go out for dinner or anything like that. Usually we just cook dinner watch movies and play video games so by following the list it helps signify that's it's our special day .

Besides Vday just passed and his bday is Jan 17 Mine is Dec 17 and u got christmas up in there. You run out of things to buy by Feb 25th lol !

That's why my wife and I do it. It makes it simple to get a gift. You know decades ahead of time what you should buy. And it keeps us from getting in a rut of always buying the same kind of thing.

I just got off the phone with my sister and apparently my mom fell again today adn they are taking her to the doctors. Now luckily she didn't fall as hard today as she did a few days ago but since she also fell yesterday she finally agreed to go to the doctors to get checked out. ( I personally think she should have gone in yesterday when she fell but she didn't want to) so now I am waiting to hear back about how that is all going. But it still has me concerned cause her balance or something is obviously messed up. I am wondering if it could be the tumor near her pituitary gland but my mom said the doctors didn't think that was it. (of course the doctors have no ideas as to a cause) So I am concerned about my mom but on top of that I am mad/concerned about my dad. Now my dad has had asthma problems, back problems, and too many other problems to go into all of them. He has been doing better but there are times when he just doesn't seem quite him self. It usually is around times of stress and he has been stressed about my mom so he has been seeming a bit weird. But the part that made me mad was that his glasses broke the other day and today instead of calling me or one of my brothers or sister to take my mom to the doctors he decided to drive her himself but as I said his glasses are broken and he should not be driving without them. So now I am concerned/mad at my dad and I am concerned at my mom and mad at the doctors for their inability to give a straight concrete answer to why she is having the troubles she has been having. but than again I should not be to surprised about the doctors lack of answers. growing up they nearly killed my dad often enough by giving him medicine they knew he was allergic to and other stupid thing like that. Ugh but this is just so annoying.

Dude, if you're eighty and still giving your wife wood, I say she has nothing to complain about.

Sorry Hylian. It's hard to grow up and see your folks look all vulnerable. :\

miniscule rant: I had to block 3 friends on facebook this week who were cluttering up my page because they're using their status messages as some kind of diet and exercise diary. Don't know why it annoys me to see half a page of people talking about what they ate, why they feel bad about it, and what body part they're going to work out today. But for some reason it does. Maybe I'm just cranky because it's lunchtime.

Also the lesson didn't go well. I hate working with a partner.

So it's weird being back in an academic lab full time. Everything is so much more laid back than industry. I almost feel like I'm being a hardass on the lazy grad students. I get kinda pissed off when they tell me they'll do something and wait a month to do it.

My wife uses my account on Facebook to play Farmville and spams the shit out of it because she's sending stuff to her other accounts. I go to my profile page and all I see is that stupid Farmville shit. It drives me insane but she loves it so I leave it.

Screw you Halifax City Council! You can't take my Mounties from me! The RCMP can differentiate their arses from holes in the ground, unlike the city cops! Screw you, screw you sideways with a sex bolt I say!

DarkAngel, Happy Anniversary, just remember that he's gonna be there for you, just not today. Anyway, you have all us geeks to talk to. ;)

Academics do a lot of talking, but are soft on action (yet their labs look busy all the time, so go figure). I've tried to set up a lot of collaborations where meetings go great and everyone seems excited, then I go to them a week later and they're like "Wut? Oh, yeah, sounds good. I'll get back to you." Luckily the guy I'm consulting for at the university is an exception.

I have recently been informed that the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary is pretty much the national joke when it comes to police forces. I have no personal experience or anecdotes to relate, but reputation says that it could be much worse.

I'm guilty of this, but it isn't intentional. If I say I want to do something or pitch an idea, it's on top of an already busy schedule dominated by teaching and grad student advising. I've got some archaeologists out in Hockley, TX waiting on me for like a month because two grad students are finishing up, and I haven't had the time.

I have allowed my passive-aggressive tendencies (tendencies which I have only recently become fully aware of) to get so out of hand that now I'm afraid to express my distaste for things for fear that I'll blow things out of proportion due to pent up anger, or worse, that it's not even something worth being upset about and I can't tell the difference anymore.

To borrow a phrase, I have no mouth, and I must scream.

I hate fucking bureaucracy! Some may know that I lost my job a couple of months ago, and after a few weeks moping, I decided to go back to school again. All is well for a month, albeit a little tight, since after 2 years of having a job and a modest income,im back to a student lifestyle, but I dont mind. Well,so I went to the bank today to finally get my Monthly Money from the Government (Here in Germany,if you payed your taxes for at least 2 years, you may collect for 12 months 60% of your old income or till you find a new job) exited like a 12 year old a christmas, for it takes our fucked up Pencil-pushers months till they finished my paperworks and my savings were all dried up.
So then the bank tells me that nothing arrived, and im like "Huh,whats going on here?" So I called the Agency in charge for my money and after some searching they found out that "ooops...we wrote the wrong number for your Bank Account." so now I got to wait 2 weeks till my cash arrives. But till then Im gonna be hit by effing late fees and overdrawn account fees that it will all be gone after i finished paying my bills and hit. ARG! I want to go over to the Agency and stab that fucker that messed it up with a pencil!

I blew up at my daughter today. When my wife was unemployed we had severe money problems and I discovered that she had been eating breakfast at school instead of at home before she left. So consequently she was blowing through almost $50 a week for school lunch. Normally $50 can last 2 weeks. So I asked her to start eating at home instead of school. Then I found out she kept doing it, citing not having enough time at home. I told her she was done doing it and started giving her $5 a day (which was a huge pain in the ass), telling her that if she didn't eat at home she'd be hungry. Last week we had no money at all so I couldn't give her the $5. My wife wrote her a check for $50 so that she could eat and we crossed our fingers that I'd get paid before the check hit.

I looked this morning and she'd been eating breakfast again. I went off. I did something I've never done before - I started calling her names. I know I called her a selfish little bitch and told her she didn't care about us. I told her she couldn't be treated as an adult and that she was losing pretty much everything (internet, phone, etc.). I then told her to get the hell out of my sight and she left in tears.

On the one hand I feel bad for calling her names, but on the other side I don't feel badly at all because treating her like an adult person didn't work. She knew we were in financial trouble and she just kept spending money like it was nothing. My wife said, "Is it still a big deal now that I have a job?" My response, "It's not about the money any more."

I really, truly felt like smacking her when she was snorting and rolling her eyes at me when I was talking to her but I didn't.

Tonight at home is gonna be SO much fun.

Feel bad, Dave. The emotion you are eliciting is a bad one; badly implies that you are doing a wrong job at being capable of feeling.

And, that sucks, but you're in a stressful situation. I think an apology but a reinforcement of the importance of scrimping is in order! She'll make it through.

Or, you know, call DCFS on your ass, Baldwin. :)

Aw... well, it happens, Dave. I remember being a bitchy teenager, making my usually clean-mouthed parents say things I never thought they'd say. I imagine that having someone you helped create scoffing and rolling their eyes at any logical argument you present can be pretty infuriating. If you say you're sorry for the name calling and, like Juski says, still stress the importance of why you were so angry, maybe it'll get through. I hope it gets better!
