Pet Peeve rants.

It bothers me that Superman is called the big blue Boy Scout. The Scout motto is Be Prepared, Superman is never prepared. He just shows up and trusts his alien biology will be enough. Batman though, Batman is always prepared.

And Scar! He was great at being prepared, too!

Well Captain Marvel Shazam gets called "The Big Red Cheese," but you never hear the Bonbel people hitting him up for a sponsorship.

Using my android tablet, when a Google home add comes on TV it activates Google assistant.
When I won a google home mini at the office christmas party, I had to turn off my phone's "hey google" voice recognition because otherwise I'd be answered by a cacophony. They don't coordinate well.

But it increased my battery life by a noticeable amount.

People typing "good think" instead of "good thing." It is likely a typo 9 out of 10 times. But I see it enough to guess some people actually think that is the actual saying.

I have seen various young women texting on their phones while driving every single day for the last month. The local PD should deputize me, I'd make them so much damn money.

The school district calling me every week to tell me to check my email for the weekly high school newsletter. FFS, I check my email far more often than I'm likely to answer the phone, and it's a weekly fucking email, if I want to read it, I will.

I really loathe bad medical news reporting. "too much sleep could give you dementia".... NO! That's not what the study says at all! Dementia is linked to sleeping more than 9 hours a night, and it's suspected that is because the same things that lead to dementia lead to poor quality sleep. If you've got sleep apnea, or some neurochemical imbalance, then forcing yourself to wake up earlier isn't going to do shit to prevent dementia. It's just going to leave you tired, and probably lead to other problems as well.

Yes. If anything, the studies show that insufficient sleep is a risk factor for dementia, not "the length of time you spend in the bed."

Yes, but some of those habits effect how soon life will kill you. Usually you try to avoid the ones that are going to make it happen sooner.

We're here for a good time, not a long time. But dementia doesn't sound like a particularly good time.
No, it definitely is not. My wife's grandmother went through dementia and it was such a terrible thing to witness. Luckily she didn't have a prolonged life with it.

One of our cousins is taking care of her Mom at home as she's slowly fading deeper into dementia/Alzheimer's. She has to lock of her home like a fortress to slow her mother down on her attempts to get back "home." She's still having some good times, but the bad times are occurring more frequently and getting worse. She's having to deal with sundowners syndrome more frequently as her condition worsens.

Yeah. There's a certain twintailed redhead bitch down the street that did her damnedest to try and kill me a couple of weeks ago. Smug little shit.

When you book a flight and they let you pick seats but in teeny tiny fine print on the seat selection page it says "We can't guarantee the seats you pick at time of booking"

And this is why I usually fly Southwest, you dickwads.

Follow up: I did all the booking for our trip, and my name was the primary name, yet somehow, on our flight info, my husband was listed as the primary name instead of me. WTF.

Last time I flew I was one of the first ones to pick a seat and I got 1-A. Perfect, thought I. I would have additional legroom AND a window seat and yes, I'll pay the extra $20 to make it so. I was so young & foolish.

Seat 1-A was right behind a divider that gave me LESS leg room and there was no window as the seat was too close to the door. And I paid $20 extra for these creature comforts.

I absolutely hate how dark games are getting these days. I've run into a roadblock in KSP because I just can't see the game/controls/craft well enough against the incredibly dark starry skies. I run into it in soooooo many games. Either I have to jack the gamma all to hell to be able to see, crank the brightness all the way up on the monitor, or not play. In most cases, it's not play. And no, it's not because of the glasses. It happens all the damn time with the clear ones too - though it is worse since those have been broken.
oh man serious question for you. how new is your monitor? make sure it doesnt have "adaptive lighting" turned on if its new enough. My samsungs all use it to make blacks darker by turning off the back lighting selectively. it means anytime the screen is 70% black the backlight dims making the screen super dark.

I only bring this up because i had the same problem and thats where it was coming from.

I feel you. I love those games that have a gamma adjustment that says "slide the slider until the 'x' is barely visible." Fuck you, bitch. I'm sliding that thing all the way ;)

The school district has now started reading out the entirety of the weekly email over the phone, in addition to sending the email. FFS people.

Ours has been doing that since Li'l Z started public school. Even worse, it calls both Mr. Z and I.

I hate when this happens:

Someone: "I need this information"
Me: "You can get that information in our system."
Someone: "Yes, but I trust it more if you are the one that gives it to me"

I think you just explained why Boomer parents always seem to want their kids to Google stuff for them.

I experience something similar:

(8:45)Them: Hi, how is your day going? I need your help with this ASAP. Let me know when you get in.
(9:00)Me: Hi, morning, what can I do for you?[ignoring that had they just asked me in the original message I'd have had an answer for them already...]
(1:30)Them: Finally telling me what they were looking for 5 hours later...

ASAP...right...

Argh why do I always not remember one or two items until an hour AFTER I place my Amazon order?
This ranks right up there with having to poop the instant you're done taking a shower.

I usually try and stack several items into one Amazon order, but they almost always get broken up into multiple shipments anyway.
