[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

This promotion does not come with any pay increase, but does come with three times the responsibility
And no additional power to actually effect change either. You will just be responsible for anything and everything that goes wrong for doing what you were told to do.

I want a game that's finished. A game that I can just load up and play, and have it play mostly flawlessly. No early access, no alpha, no beta, no open source, no ongoing project that's been touched by who knows how many hands over a two decade development cycle - a finished game. No need to download additional mods to make it play well, or add HD graphics, or to balance out the classes, or any of that crap. Why is this so impossible to find now?

There's plenty of games like that, they just may not be games you *like*. Especially in the survival sandbox genre. Finished games I've played over the last year or so that I liked - Subnautica, Killing Floor 2, Dying Light, Vermintide 2, Darkest Dungeon, Stardew Valley, Cities: Skylines, Divinity: Original Sin (YMMV depending on patch, admittedly), Phoning Home, DOOM (2016), Dragon Ball FighterZ, Offworld Trading Company...

And hey, I guess technically Rimworld is finished now :D

You ever try playing Orcs Must Die 2 co-op? You and Aislynn might like it... Pauline and I sure did.

Ugh... I can't do Divinity: Original Sin. It has become "the game that destroys friendships" in my circle.
It was rather amusing how, in Divinity:OS 2, my "dwarf paladin" build slowly became more and more questionable. Fast forward to act 3, when in the middle of a fight, my dwarf suddenly summons a giant looming "inner demon" and grows tentacles to hentai-whip enemies at 10 meters. I had not shared any of this "character growth" with the other players. Snuffles spoke up "Uhhhh.. should we be worried about Gas?"

There are plenty of smaller AA and indie titles like this. Dead Cells, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice, anything published by focus interactive or digital revolver. There's a ton of really good games out there, they just aren't from the big publishers (except Nintendo)

I lost access to my 5 year old Reddit account with a ton of karma. I can't get in, and I know the password is right, because I use a manager. Not sure what happened, and Reddit support can't help. I've tried every password I can think of with no luck. Can't reset, because apparently I never associated an email. No on is using it. The only posts I see are actually mine. No idea what's going on. Meh, it's just imaginary points, I guess, but I had a lot of saved posts, too.

Maybe God is personally intervening, offering salvation from Hell.

I’d try it from another computer/phone at least once, just to make sure it’s not a saved password/keyboard/macro/DNS spoof conflict.

Ah it was last.fm. I haven't even used that in years. I guess I should use more diverse usernames, but that kind of negates the entire point of using the same username everywhere.

Between my aunt dying yesterday, throwing or my back for the first time in years yesterday, and my train already being hopelessly over time, I'm feeling really great about my start at my new job today. Urgh. Life.

I recommended my translation company in Taiwan to a friend who needed a translation done. I said "we charge a lot, but that's because we have systems in place to guarantee the best quality." Which is mostly true, we have some pretty danged good translators, and the editors are generally all awesome, and we leverage technology (no, not Google Translate) to help us and maximize our quality.

Well, my friend just showed me the completed translation. It sucked. It was an English to Chinese translation, and there were tons of low-level errors. Stuff like homophone errors (equivalent to something like "She wore a twenty carrot wring" in English), basic mistranslations, formatting errors, etc.

What the fuck is going on back there? I leave for a couple of months and everything goes to shit?

My Wacom cintiq died some time ago. Works as a tablet but the backlight is burned out so the screen won't turn on. It's passed warranty coverage so getting it fixed was going to be somewhere around $700 (based on stories I heard from other people with the same issue).

Decided instead of spending $700 on repairing a 10yr old piece of hardware, or spending $2400 I don't have on a new cintiq, I'd do some research and find a good cintiq alternative. Ten years ago Wacom was the only name in the game, not so anymore.

I settled on a brand new Huion Kamvas. Same price as getting my cintiq repaired.

The fucking piece of shit won't work. I have been installing, uninstalling, and reinstalling the driver over and over again for four fucking days. Ive tried every USB port in my machine and followed their instructions to the letter. I contacted their support and their fucking advice was to uninstall and reinstall and try a different USB port. Assholes, did you even read my fucking email?!

Anyway, Dave, sorry your drawings are taking so damn long.

I've never heard of this company before, so I looked them up, and the English errors on their website annoy me.

They're pretty favourably reviewed, for the most part. Driver issues seem common but people seem to like the product a whole lot. And it's not like Wacom is without driver issues (that's another part of why I figured I'd get something else). I even know a couple of very good animators at a very reputable animation studio who use the same one I bought.

I did my research before buying but man, my driver issues seem worse than everyone else's and this thing is pissing me off.
