TIL: Today I Learned

TIL that I cannot say "serendipitously" without accidentally saying "seren-dipshit-ly". It's happened three times today, two of them with the same person.

TIL: Dance remixes of 30s music is a thing.

An awesome thing.

I suppose it's due to the recent popularity of Great Gatsby parties.

Facebook would kill for comprehensive data like that. It truly is the Era of the End of Privacy.
Well hell, Coulson said it on Agents of SHIELD: "My job gets a little easier every year. People surveil themselves now."
I was checking to see how far back it kept data, and I noticed at one point it disappeared for me. At first I thought "Oh, it must only store the data a couple years back" But then I noticed the exact day and route of the first day of location tracking being on again.

And it hit me.

On my droid 1, I usually kept the GPS/location device turned off to save battery life.

But one day in 2013 I needed directions to a hospital I'd never been to before. And I never thought to turn it back off again.

I'm going somewhere that serves alcohol for lunch, I think.

I use an iPhone, but Google Maps is my GPS app of choice. No data. Not even going back to when I had an Evo.

Yeah, I think it has to do with android more than google maps, with google maps just being the method that displays the stored android location API to you in a visible format.

Google now is really just creepy. It knows my daily schedule better than I do. [emoji14]

I've known for a while that it's been watching me, because it always pops up "this is when you usually go to work, so here's the traffic on that route." And it does the same for where I usually go to lunch, where I usually get dinner on the way home, and of course the route home.

So I knew it was watching, I just didn't know there was such a convenient way to display the data.

Actually, what's creepy is that my new car ALSO knows my daily schedule, and has a + mode for extra efficiency whenever I'm near home.

I always have google tracking off unless I'm navigating, or traveling (so I can use it as a GPS log of where I went sightseeing)

I don't have a smartphone or a laptop, so...
Aw, man, I still have my old droid 1 I could just yank the sim card from and let you have that, if you were local.

Or heck, I think I still have my Sidekick 3 if you wanted to be ultra hipster retro. Of course, that doesn't have a GPS in it.
