Heh, not bad. Though the speaker's just a stand in. I'm going to do some audio frequency EM imaging, and the speaker was just to make sure my oscillator was functioning. Yeah, not very stable. So unstable in fact that it makes an excellent theremin. I will have to use a better oscillator circuit.

One of my friends called me out for the Ice Bucket Challenge last night, citing the 24 hour rule. I didn't want to do the same old "dump bucket o' water and done", so I decided to get creative with the rules:

(Yes, I really did donate. Got my email receipt and everything. Also, sorry to @Zero Esc for any continued PTSD this causes you. :D )

My father's 80th birthday was yesterday. A lot of family came out for it and I wound up spending most of my time with all my cousins and nieces. Because I'm a big kid, myself. The whole party was at my sister's place, which this huge house on a lake. Spent some time swimming, some kayaking, some playing pinball machines in the basement because my brother-in-law runs a pinball machine business.

But the coup de grace was beating up a piñata. Each of the kids took their turns. They all shared three whacks at the candy-filled beast. I watched on or even helped the shorter ones:

(Amelia nearly whacked me right in the face here.)

Finally, the kids let me take the final whack at this majestic creature. I wound up like a batter, even pointed to call the direction of the hit...

And took its head clean off, whereupon I mounted it on a "pike."

I'm mounting my trophy over the fireplace.

Wait...I don't have a fireplace.

Shit.

1)That sounds like an awesome weekend!
2) PLEASE tell me you really kept the head and are hanging it on your wall. And take pictures.

Gues who did an epic sightseeing flight today? - Just me

Flying like grandfather experienced it in North Africa, flying like it's meant to be. And no, unlike @Docseverin we know not to jump out of a perfectly working good plane.
The captain himself said that the good ol' Tante Ju was checked and looked after more than any of the modern Lufthansa planes.

Oh the joy, and the sound, of riding on a 78 year old airplane.

I tried to find a clip of the plane from "Airplane!" where the plane is just flying, but couldn't.

--Patrick
It's also not easy to find videos on youtube with proper sound. It's pretty impressing on the taxiway, and gets even more so when the pilot revs them up for take-off.
A nice steady unspectaular take-off at 120 km/h - roughly 75 mph.
Gf compared it 'more like riding a bus than flying' but was also totally enthusiastic.

You misunderstand. In the movie Airplane!, you see a picture of a jet, but what you hear is a prop plane.

--Patrick
Oh, I know, no misunderstanding there. Hence why I looked at Youtube for sound ;)
We quoted quite some Airplane! today while waiting or the trip to start. Jokes about captain and fish lunch, jokes about what's a cockpit, and of course a lot of 'clearence, Clarence'.

Nice fact: the D-AQUI has the equipment and is certified for instruments-only flight. But the captain had a laptop with the the road map and navi for the round trip on his lap :)

Wait... so there were others there? It wasn't just you?

Hey, @GasBandit, any idea what model Michael Douglas is wearing? Google hasn't really helped beyond one or two blogs eliminating potential candidates. They aren't Ronsirs, and they aren't Clubmasters.
