[Gaming] Diablo 3 : Ser Farm-A-Lot

I logged on last night with Cranky to try out some seasons goodness (sorry to the rest of the folks we saw, he is incredibly impatient and wasn't 100% getting this whole "seasons" thing, so that's why we just kept to ourselves).
Got to see the announcements for when the first people hit lvl 70 (about 4hrs into seasons) and kill Malthael (about 6.5 hrs in).
So in case you're wondering, that means it's possible to reach level 70 from scratch in about 4hrs. We managed to make it all the way up to level 25 by the time we hit act II, but we were mainly just playing, not powering through with any specific goal in mind. We will see what happens. Now I just need to clear another character spot so I can see if season stash is shared and all that.

Season stash is shared. It's just you can't take stuff from your main stash into seasons.

First level 70 was actually about 1.5 hours in NA. They exploited the possibility of no-kill bounty completions in adventure mode, and likely had their whole guild farming them up in Torment 6 to hold for them to bounce between. I wish that Blizzard hadn't set it up to be so easy to game, but either way the leaderboards are always going to go to the people who find the best ways to exploit the system.

I checked and all 1,000 spots on the leaderboard for hitting level 70 are full. Some people were silly fast.

I made another WD for seasons and it's pretty fun to play again without all the "help" from paragon levels etc.

Do we know yet how all the seasonal paragon levels will get transferred?

That's what I expected, but what I don't know is whether I can rush a 'toon through to level 70, delete that char (freeing up the slot), and then create a new one without losing my "season" stash (since at that point you'll have 0 active seasonal chars created).

Haven't heard yet, but I imagine they'll just roll the cumulative paragon exp into the non-seasonal paragon pool and see what that gets you.

Yeah, what I've read says the experience gets transferred, not the number of levels you gain. Don't expect it to make much of a dent unless you're playing a lot.

I would imagine the seasonal stash stays without an active character in the same way that the hardcore one does, but I guess you'd have to test to be sure.

I actually heard you can pick a character of the same class to receive it. If it goes over normal stuff, THEN it goes into Paragon.

Yes but I just signed off for the night and won't be back until tomorrow afternoon.
Also currently running chars for seasons, gonna at least give the first one a go.

Skills are interesting in this game so far. I dunno about being able to just switch them up whenever (outside of boss fights, that is). I'm guessing the power builds lie in equipment which augments them?

You can't switch skills or gear once you enter a greater rift, but you won't be running those until you're level 70.

There are specific challenges which do not allow skills switching (some don't even allow equipment switching!). There is also a mechanic in place which does not allow you to change up your skills while you are in combat (or close enough to combat), and any skills you change have a short "cooldown" before they become active/accessible.

That said, in order to really get to the upper echelons of play, you will need to build synergies with items/skills/legendary effects/team play. Blizzard said they wanted to introduce specific items which would make otherwise run-of-the-mill skills into attractive options.

You'll find class-specific items that give bonuses, too. Crusader shields/flails, for example, giving bonus Wrath or effects/damage bonuses to certain skills.

Interesting thing about that, especially of interest to min/maxers (or as I like to call 'em, "spreadsheet jockeys"):

I have been doing damage all wrong. So you're better off spreading it out between TYPES of damage. Stacking elemental - even different types of elemental - still has lesser returns.

Ah, I see their damage calculator still doesn't really show you how much damage you're doing. Damn it Blizzard, stop making me do spreadsheet math to get the effects I want!

Thanks everyone for the info! Definitely will help me decide what to do next with OoEeOoAhAhh.

Stacking the different types will still work, but you'd have to have a skill which deals damage in multiple types simultaneously, and I'm not sure any exist (closest is the Tal Rasha's set when combined with Triumvirate, I think...if it calls down three meteors at once).
Otherwise you're better off adding a new type rather than a type you already have, that is, rather than going:

+20% <element>, +20% <element>, +20% <element>

you're better off going

+20% <element>, +20% <skill>, +20% <critter type>

...before you loop back around to add another boost to the elemental. Trouble is that matching the critter type is harder to keep consistent.
Most reliable boost, then, is rather than adding 4xElemental boosts, use 2xElement and 2xSkill.

This is why I like playing a wizard. Sure, it only has one effective strategy (buff your damage and zap everything with Disintegrate) but it also means I only need to focus on doing one thing: building damage. So all of my gear choices boil down to...

- does this increase my damage dealing stats
- does this have a bonus to Disintegrate

That's it. I don't NEED anything else. Wizards are so squishy that it's pointless to focus on defense so I should ALWAYS be going damage.

At my level (around 35) I've been focusing on Firebats and Fireglobes. Still there is a long way to go before I've seen the game the way you folks have seen it. Not in a hurry though as I don't want to burn out on the game too soon.

Once you get the perk that allows you to gain mana regen by using certain spells, I'd switch to Spirit Barrage. Firing it off enough consecutively will effectively make your mana infinite, which is nice because then you can drop Acid Cloud for AOE between bursts without worrying about running out of ammo.
