What are you playing?

You know, I got the first episode of that for free on my iPad, and I'm avoiding starting it because I know I'm going to have to buy the rest immediately.

If you enjoy TellTale's recent releases (and you should, unless you have no soul) then you will love Wolf Among Us. I wasn't sure I'd be able to get into it after coming off of the emotional roller coaster that was The Walking Dead Season 1, and the fact that it was set in a universe I know nothing about (Fables) and more slower paced, I was skeptical.

I shouldn't have been. It's awesome. The characters are engaging and engrossing, the setting is wonderful, and playing as Bigby Wolf is a ton of fun. The game does a wonderful job of making you feel like you're actually fighting the beast within.

Also, THE COLORS! Damn is this game pretty, just look at this opening sequence.

If it's more like Walking Dead than Back to the Future, I'll have to get it.
As much as I love Back to the Future, I have to agree. BTTF was fiercely linear and you didn't have any effect on the plot. I don't know if I'll play the Walking Dead again any time son, but at least I know that my choice matters.

Same, at least for Telltale games. If it's just linear, I'd rather watch a let's play. If I have influence, I'd like to play and see how it goes.

It's definitely more Walking Dead than BttF. TWD really is the turning point in their game design, and Wolf Among Us really showcases their new dedication to that idea. Less old school puzzle adventure and more story driven drama and branching story paths.

I just finished it. Shit went down. Will play again.

I can't buy anything right now, but once I have some spending money (or my wife uses some of hers to get a $20 PSN card), it will be bought.

God I love the Hildibrand sidequests in FFXIV, they're fucking hilarious. The experimentation with facial animations for comedic effect is great. Please excuse the graphics, I play on a toaster. Also spoilered for size.

I think Walking Dead gives you the illusion that your choice matters. Yeah, some of the decisions might make some dialogue different, but the broad story still develops the exact same way, regardless of your choice. Not to say that those choices aren't interesting. There were several instances during my play through that I had to pause the game to give myself more time to think about the presented binary choices. Some of them were doozies.

Sometimes. But sometimes they can completely change the story.

WARNING: Contains Season 2 Spoilers
For instance, the choice of whether or not to save Ben in the first Season. Letting him die means Kenny doesn't get called out on his bullshit and he doesn't try to save Ben later. Hilariously, Kenny comments in Season 2 that "he can't believe he forgave that shitbird Ben", echoing the thoughts of many players. Me? I thought Kenny deserved to called out, even if Ben was a load. But without Kenny realizing that he's been part of the problem with Ben, he doesn't grow as a character.

So yeah... the story's main points remain the same, but the underlying meaning of them can change completely.

Saints Row IV deleted my save games. I have to start the whole thing over. I was right about to embark on the final mission, too. 20+ hours of gameplay, and I need to redo it all.

Not even mad. This is a very fun game.

Man, let me restate once more that TOME 4 is a truly incredible roguelike. The amount of depth in stats is borderline overwhelming. This game will go on the wall with Dominions 4 as being an "all-time best in category" game. They both still need some work, but they are still miles ahead of anything else I have played.

If you want to see choice illusion, play Mass Effect 3 after the first two. The Walking Dead, depending on the polarity of two playthroughs, can feel like an entirely different story is playing out despite the same major event points happening.

Bravely Default: I may have spoken too soon. Got my ass handed to me several times by one boss, so I kept turning tactics until something worked. That was fun. Got another tough (though optional) boss against me now. I like having to strategize over just grinding.

Shovel Knight: New Game + makes me cry. I'm through part 1 of the Tower of Fate ... kind of scared with the battle royale coming up. In the meantime, allow me to share a couple cool covers I found!

Strike the Earth, rock cover:

The Requiem of Shield Knight, orchestral cover

It's amazing to me that the makers of this game could get so much emotion out of some little pixel people with barely any dialogue plus some music. Really good storytelling for having a thin story in the first place. I don't know how they did that, but they did.

After New Game +, I'll probably take a break from Shovel Knight until one of the content patches comes out.

Samurai is another fun one.

And some of the "optional" battles later are straight up brutal even at max level.

The Vampire class is SOOOOO worth it. One of the job abilities gives you full health at the end of every fight, and another can bring you back to life when you die.

I leveled up for at least the full health ability on all my characters.

Some of the Job battles are pretty brutal. Red Mage made me lose it a few times, the way he messes with his Default/Brave.
That's where I'm at now. I wish I could cast Reflect on him so he couldn't use Cura on himself. I feel I would've had him last time, except he cast Charm on Ringabel, who then cast Regen on the boss. Made progress kind of difficult.

Played Lume today and was tremendously underwhelmed. There was no story to speak of, the puzzles didn't fit the world/art style very well, and the art style was inconsistent and didn't live up to the concept.

OH MY GOD. I had my two characters in Divinity argue about whether or not to kill the guards at the beginning, and then I had to play Rock Paper Scissors to see who would win the argument. Pretty sure I am in love, even if the wrong person won. ;)

I recently started playing it too and am loving it. Wish it had a way to do local co-op without a second copy but most pc games don't.

Beat Shovel Knight, new game +. After finishing the battle royale, the final boss was nothing.

Think it's time to give this game a rest until the content patches are made.

Remember when Divinity was the FOURTH place prize in a contest? Which Adam won?

Bet @blotsfan wishes he'd have won that instead of some stupid PS4 now.

Alas, as of now the PS4 is just cruelly taunting me. I still have no games for it. Madden 2015 comes out August 30 so I'm just biding my time until then. The new NCAA football game was supposed to come out today, but NOOOOO we cant have one this year. Stupid rights of players to not be used as free labor for a multi billion dollar industry.

Evolve in October.
