Video Game News and Miscellany

The first GameBoy Batman game is ball-bustingly hard. I'm not sure I even got halfway through it. It's right up there with NES TMNT and Cobra Triangle.

Though I am absolutely stoked for Stick of Truth (apparently the review embargo is going to be up very soon, weeks before release, that's an incredibly good sign) the game I am still most unapologetically excited for is still Shovel Knight.

Mario Kart 8 releasing May 30. Babies are back, Waluigi, and now the Koopalings too. A lot of damn characters.

Some other stuff got release dates too, but Nintendo Direct then pointlessly teased at X and Bayonetta 2 without dates.

They really blew their load early with Little Mac's SSB trailer. DKC's trailer was good but we've seen a ton about the game, and the rest of the Direct was pretty boring/3DS.

I'm excited for X, but I think most people already figured it would have Xenoblade combat so the trailer was sadly underwhelming.

Bayonetta 2 looks cuh-razy as fuck, but I've yet to play 1 and never had much interest in the DMC-type games.

Little Mac revealed as next fighter for Super Smash Bros. I'm both surprised AND excited over this.

Seriously... at this point the only character from my wish list would be a Belmont from Castlevania. They've already gotten everybody else from it.

Weird though, I would have figured that graphics would be better in this generation for basketball games. I don't think I could tell that gameplay apart from psx games. The upclose shots are probably PS2 quality.

I'm the last person to defend console games. And looking at wikipedia, I wonder if the assets were kept simple for the IOS/Android ports. No, I'm not kidding.

That looks pretty great. I'll have to wait until I have, you know, a job to pay for this. Even still, I'd probably wait for reviews and such, anyway.

But yeah, it looks great. Even when you're in control, it looks straight out of an episode of South Park. Though their famously simplistic style certainly helps in that.

Laughed my ass off through the whole preview. I actually enjoy RPG systems where there's a little button input to determine hits/blocks/etc, so I'm not just sitting there in-between turns. Game's looking to be fantastic.

I only watched the first 6 minutes, but it looks like there are quicktime events that let you swear unnecessarily (like at 3:30)?

If you have Superman fighting the likes of Darkseid and Doomsday, his invulnerability is suddenly no longer a concern.
Yeah, but when there are only a handful of villains that can actually give him trouble, that doesn't make for much of a game. Unless they went some sort of Shadow of the Collossus route where it's nothing but boss fights and exploration.

If they go open world, they could only have a health bar during certain missions. While you're flying around the city stopping muggings, collecting trinkets, spotting cameos, and whatever, you're invincible. (It's not like health is a major concern when you're just wandering around in Saints Row or Red Faction Guerrilla, so it wouldn't be that different.) Then, when major events are happening, you get either a city or personal health bar, depending on the threat. That way you get the freedom to just fly around, but the pressure can also be on when it needs to be.

Kickstarter got hacked this week and hackers made with all your information except for credit card info.

Might even want to repost this in the Kickstarter thread.

Also, you just might want to start redoing all your credit cards every six months just 'cuz.
