[Question] Worth the repair?

I've aquired another surplus laptop, an HP dv2312us. It powers on, but it has the black screen issue the dv2000 series is known for. I looked at a how to video for repairing this, and it's beyond my ability, both in skill and materials. The guy tore it down far more than I'm comfortable with attempting, and he used tools I do not have, and am not willing to buy for repairing a single laptop.

My main laptop is an Aspire 5740, the first surplus laptop is a CQ60. With those two up and running, is the HP worth the expense to revive?

In a word, no.

According to HP, it only has a 1.6GHz processor, and can't be upgraded to more than 2GB RAM. These days, if you can't put more than 4GB in it, it's probably not worth keeping unless you need a unit specifically for use with legacy software. Fixing up something like that looks even more questionable when things like this or this are out there.
