Random Video Game Crap

Todd Howard has made it very clear in statements that he detests that New Vegas is as popular as it is because it's not as tightly bound to Bethesda as 3, 4, and 76 are.

Here's an interesting thing. To me, anyway.

I was in the mood to play Star Wars Jedi Survivor. Actually, I wanted to replay Fallen Order, too. I almost bought them together on PS5 for $40. Then I realized I could save money by subscribing to PS Plus. Then I noticed they were available through EA's subscription service.

So for $9 Canadian, I was able to rent them. Totally worth for games I'll likely not replay for a long time. Kind of amazing there are options like that out there these days instead of buying a full game.

For people with gaming pc's, Gamepass on PC is such an underused feature that is legit great.

Yep, I've subscribed to Game Pass in the past. It's great, although I find it's kind of the thing you ubsubscribe to until it gets a few new games. I had PS Plus for awhile but couldn't afford to re-up it this past year. Subscription services are great, though what you get out of them can be hit and miss sometimes.

First thought: what? Doom wasn't anywhere near 300MB
Oh wait, this is a new game, right.
Third thought: hasn't this been, sadly, the case for years now? I remember buying a "physical" game which literally just had the steam installer and a steam code on the box.
Oh wait, this is about the console versions.
Oh well.

Watching a YouTube video on the Crackdown series from a creator I've been following for a while. He's funny, and he does retrospectives on a lot of games I find interesting, but every once in a while he pulls out a line like, "People just don't get attached to video games the way they did back then," and...

FFS, dude. Just because you're desperately mining your childhood nostalgia trying to recreate the last time you were happy doesn't mean that no one else is experiencing joy in video games.

This video will be torture for anyone over the age of 40
The real torture was the old guys watching. Especially them getting Mario trivia wrong. "No one knew it was a stage play." The fuck they didn't! The title screen spelled it out! There's a curtain, Mario can go behind the scenery. People speculated about Mario 3 being a play since it was released.

So this is hardware related more than software, but I love weird handheld gaming machines and just learned that my absolute favorite, the miyoo mini, is being discontinued.

There is an updated version, the miyoo mini plus, which is still being manufactured, and it includes a better processor, built in Wi-Fi and a longer lasting battery, but it's also slightly bigger, whereas this thing is about the size of a deck of cards and is so tiny and portable that it's my favorite device to carry around.
