Penny Arcade - 4/22

I am not going to link an image so you have to go look at the comic but this is the first time a webcomic of any shape or form actually made me audibly chuckle in quite a while. I find humor in a lot of them but this one actually made me laugh.

Yes. I've been suffering through the behaviour of Courtney Love during much of it.

There's tons funny about suicide.

Loved the comic, although I think that the Rock Band Nirvana should also come with a Courtney Love peripheral which squanders your assets on coke and shitty licensing, and then Leaves Your Jar of Ashes In An Airport Vent And Forget Where You Left It periph FOR your Courtney Love periph.

On a slight tangent, but related to the quote, my ex-brother-in-law was going to ditch his Halloween costume as he thought it inappropriate as I'd just lost my house in a fire. I asked him what it was. He said it was going to be a Buddhist monk from Vietnam, complete with gas can. At the time my house was still smoking, and firefighters were still on the scene. It was all I could do to stop laughing long enough to tell him DO IT.

I had a bigger reaction to a strip from last week. It wasn't exactly a laugh, more of a :Leyla: And it wasn't about the strip itself, more the news blog that went with it:

Gabe said:
I did just get back from a little vacation down to Disneyland with my family. I am a huge fan of the place and now that lil' Gabe is almost five, I figured it was time to take him. We stayed at the Disneyland Hotel and decided to eat at a place nearby called Goofy's Kitchen. This is a really cool buffet style restaurant where the Disney characters walk around and interact with the gusts during dinner. When Chip came over to the table Kara wanted to get a picture and I expected the chipmunk to maybe throw an arm around her shoulder. I did not expect him to put both arms around her and pull her into what I thought was a romantic embrace. I said "Hey chip that's my wife man!" He responded by making a loud "Thrbbbbt" sound and hugged her even tighter. It was at this point that I noticed the other diners watching me. I guess someone raising their voice at a beloved character like Chip came as a surprise to them. I backed down and took the picture but kept my eye on him the rest of the night. In the end I'd say the food was awesome, being emasculated by a six foot tall chipmunk was not as awesome.

I have since been told that Chip and Dale are almost always played by women. This has added a new layer to the experience.
So, Sera, have you been secretly working at Disneyland?

I guess it can be, just like anything but it also can be really painful. If I had just had my brother kill himself this probably wouldn't be funny to me. As it stands I laugh every-time I hear Seinfelds suicide bit.

i still remember what I was doing when I found out Kurt was dead. I had just finished watching Dune (the 80's version, with Sting) and eating a Tombstone pizza. I turned off the VCR and turned on MTV, and Kurt Loader was anouncing it.

I was a huge fan of Nirvana and felt that Kurt's death (still refuse to call it a "suicide") was a great loss of talent to a world that needed it.

When I worked on the suicide hotline we laughed a lot. Amongst ourselves and with callers. Humor and laughter can be a good way to work through a difficult subject. I'm not saying it's the first place I went with any given caller, but you'd be surprised how many genuinely suicidal people would call up and we'd end up laughing. Dark humor, sure, but any port in a storm.

As for this strip, I concur:

He shot himself in the face with a shotgun. Premeditated, to end his own life. It's a suicide. Dressing it up as anything else is just useless denial.

I was under the impression that the tox screen they performed on his body after his death showed that he had injected himself with such a large dose of heroin that he would have been unable to work the shotgun and blow his head off. This seems to imply that somebody found him and finished the job out of opportunity or that at the very least he had help. Whole thing sounds fishy to me.

I just find it highly dubious that the notoriously depressed and conflicted Cobain, who wrote in his diaries extensively about these issues, and, you know, all those songs which talk about suicide and how he's a freak, etc etc.........would be part of a suicide conspiracy.

no part of the article was original investigation, wikipedia isn't edited by teenagers or conspiracy nuts (at least not extensively) and i can't see any real problem with it.

the article provides the alternative viewpoint. it isn't wikipedia's fault that people believe that stuff; wikipedia is just providing the information.

Thank you, thats all Im saying. A wiki cite doesn't exsactly prove that he was murdered.
well if we are being "exsact", the wiki "cite" is just pointing you to other information.

Okay, I can cede that point. I guess the main thing is that this is one of those conspiracies that people tend to believe, when looking over the obvious facts.

Courtney Love is a crazy, insane woman--I mean, she fucking hid, and then lost, Cobain's ashes in an airport...not to mention how half of it got lost and/or snorted up at a friend's--but I ~~REALLY~~ doubt she's the one behind this huge convoluted conspiracy.

It's not really a huge, convulted conspiracy to think that going after the widow fame + paycheck she found him all drugged up and decided to just shoot him right then, and then act surprised.

This is my viewpoint as well. It's not like I think he was forcefully injected with Heroin and then Cox blew his head off while cackling madly about the millions she'd be able to make in the wake of his death... I just think it's entirely possible that somebody found him like that and finished the job, for whatever reason they had.

It's still hell of an action and hell of a coverup, for all of these years. And let's just say she IS that batshit insane. The cops gotta be fucking morons for not figuring it out. No, I believe this still falls under one of those stoned kid's going, "Whoah that makes sense, mann" kind of rumors.

Once again, there is a whole library of music that Kurt Cobain made which pretty much diagnoses this very thing happening. "Jesus Don't Want Me For A Sunbeam" isn't about how Courtney Love was setting him up to overdose and get shot, neither.

congratulations, you have displayed a thouroughly grade school level of maturity and intelligence. here are some semantics for you to fuck around with: you are a douchebag.

#74

DougTheHead

No, I criticized him the first time because he felt his statement shouldn't be ridiculed because it was not phrased as a declarative sentence. I pointed out that using ambiguous qualifiers in your sentence (such as "I'm not sure if..." which is what I was referring to) does not make his statements immune to ridicule.

Then he pulled out the "personal tragedy" card and evidently expected me to fall all over myself apologizing for having said a mean thing to somebody who had dead family members. I then tried to show him that this did not make him any more immune from ridicule. I'm sorry to hear he's experienced such a tragedy, but this knowledge doesn't change my opinion of his statements.

Anyone who thought it was about him "not saying enough" or being "an attention whore" (I like how you pulled that one out of your ass, since you certainly didn't get it from anything I wrote) has displayed a thoroughly grade-school level of reading comprehension.

What do Kurt Cobain and Michaelangelo have in common?

[spoiler:3rowr13r]They both used their brain to paint the ceiling.[/spoiler:3rowr13r]
   Man, sometimes I just need a groanworthy joke to improve my mood. Thanks, man.
Thought I should lighten the mood with a bit of dark humor :smirk:

Can we Cobain this thread yet? It's already devolved into nothing more than people being asses towards each other.*

*the only difference between this thread and all other times people are asses is that these asses aren't as amusing.

I am enjoying gurpel and krisken raging against someone being a douchebag. I assume they are angry because he is taking their jobs.

Sometimes it seems to me that you're all insane. Not judging, mind you, just noticing.

sooo you criticised him for not saying enough, and then when he says more, you call him an attention *? furthermore, you do all this stupid poop whilst on the topic of the man's dead relatives?!
It wasn't about being to vague about his personal experience, it was about him using vague qualifiers on his original statement. Jumping straight from that to "I have suicide deaths in my family" looks like he's playing the "no on can criticize me because something bad vaguely related to the topic happened to me" card.

Personally, I think he misread the intent of the criticizers post and got emotional about it (as humans are prone to do). The fact he can't seem to see that this is most likely a misunderstanding makes him kinda a jerk. If you don't want to be a part of a dicussion, don't join it. If you don't want to have to explain an opinion, don't express it. Simple as that.

Don't worry, I'm done commenting.
