Have you ever considered a career as a sail rigger?

Most of the time if it's about politics stuff, it's just trying to shock a conversation to make people change how they think. The same thing as like protesting I guess. Movie stuff it's just more being shitty and argumentative I think. Sports stuff is just... I dunno, sports is so stupid and meaningless that it's theater of the absurd to me to get all mad about it.

also a lot of what y'all think is "trolling" is just me stating my opinions that are very different from the majority here

I will say, that despite your confrontational attitude, you have caused me to think a lot more about certain things. I wasn't the full blown Nazi you used to be, but I was definitely more along the line of "its not racist if there are statistics to back it up" and a lot of what you've said in the past got me to rethink that. So I guess despite how you can be, I do appreciate your impact on me being a better person.

#15

Bubble181

Bubble181

Your opinions aren't that different from the majority here, though. Heck, over 50% of us ended up with Bernie Sanders on that poll about "where do you stand?" as politics go. Going in as aggressively as you do scares away any moderates leaning your way, though. I have friends who are literally in the communist party who're less confrontational and pushing about some issues than you are. The way you present some issues - and the way you attack people who don't agree 100% - has made me argue against you, in favor of right-wing ideas I absolutely hate myself. I'd say your actions have done more to push me to the right than to the left. Contrast-and-compare Krisken or DarkAudit who can sometimes persuade me.

good movies I saw for the first time semi-recently:

Under The Skin might be the greatest movie of all time? It's the first movie that really evoked 2001 A Space Odyssey, and made me honestly compare the two.

The Ring - I should have seen this way sooner. I loved it so much. Also I thought Naomi Watts was Nicole Kidman until the ending credits rolled for some reason

Witness - This is a great cops and criminals type old school thriller. Harrison Ford is a huge goddamn movie star. He's such a great presence even when he's not Han Solo or Indiana Jones. Also, a pretty remarkable tight script.

I also rewatched Halloween and Back to the Future recently on the appropriate days, two old favorites.

I've always really liked your movie insights, even when I didn't agree with them (ex., your weird love of Bayformers), and I'm really curious to know what you thought of Fury Road, both within the constraints of the movie itself and also the greater social context around its depiction of women and the backlash and counter-backlash around that.

I really liked it, maybe not to the huge extent of some, at least in my circle, but it was really good. Also for the record, I only liked TF3 and 4, I still think 1/2 are irredeemable garbage. But I digress. I've mostly forgotten the hot take / thinkpieces about it, but I think the movie is more clever than it seems on the surface. Unfortunately that means that people in the military will suffer for it. They won't cut crappy programs like the F-35 (1.3 trillion and counting!). They'd cut COLA, housing programs, retirement and veteran benefits (again) in order to fund the repayments.

That's the truth of any government program. If you try to take money from them, they make sure it comes from the parts that will be most painful to those who need it, rather than any fat that was intended to be trimmed, so you damn well learn your lesson not to be all uppity and try to reduce any government spending ever again.

Given how well the US treats illegal aliens (ie, non citizen, non voters) I'm guessing nothing much would change for gun owners, and since the gun owners aren't citizens elsewhere, they can't be deported, so they would actually be slightly better off.

Anyway, that's tangential to the thread...

If your current citizenship(s) were suddenly and inexplicably removed from you, and you were forced to choose between going to and receiving citizenship in Niger or Latvia which would you choose and why?

You can choose one of these three options: upgrade your computer system to something considered "top of the line" by today's standards, upgrade your home entertainment system to your ideal setup, or receive a 10 year free movie pass (refreshments not included) at your local cinema. Which do you choose, and why?

10 year movie pass, eaaaaaaaaaaasy. Unless my ideal setup could be a huge addition the size of a standard movie theater with stadium seating that is probably larger than the total sq footage of where I'm living.[/quote]
