I don't think there is already a specific thread for forum members cosplay, other than specific people's threads and posting in the general picture thread, so I'm gonna start one I guess? Feel free to merge elsewhere if needed.

This is the closest I've come to cosplay, and probably the closest I'll ever get. (Previously posted in the New Pictures thread)

I am not sure it counts, but I am trying to figure out how to afford/justify a 501st stormtrooper costume. But i can't justify min $1000 when I owe $12000 on a car and want to buy a house someday.

The only way I figure I could afford it is if I won the lottery.
But a man can dream, a man can dream.

Here's my first cosplay. Not sure I've posted before (I probably have somewhere):


My friend from another forum (back in 2008) got me and Twiggy to go out to SDCC, and she also got me to agree to cosplaying Ed to go with her fantastic Faye. This was put together in maybe 5 minutes. She picked up a t-shirt and a pair of leggings from a thrift shop and cut them them after I put them on. Wig from her Aprile cosplay, and boyfriend's goggles. Bam, instant cosplay.
Now that I know a little more about posing and such, I would have not stuffed my face into the blanket, but this is still a favorite.

My daughter is three pieces away from being ready for Denver Comic Con this weekend!

I put all of my effort into my daughter's outfit, and just modified a store costume for mine, but here's the final result.

I'm kind of considering doing a Samwell Tarly cosplay for the Garden State Comic Con next month. I've got a long-sleeve black t-shirt I can use for part of it, but that leaves black gloves (easily acquired), black trousers, black boots, and a furry black cloak, and maybe a quilted black vest - probably just use a moving blanket for that.

My daughter won the kid's costume contest at the faerie festival! Here's a pic one of the staff photographers got of her during the day.

I decided that an outfit consisting of four layers of black clothing, including a quilted blanket and fuzzy cloak, was probably a bad choice for the end of July, when it will definitely be super hot and humid.

Instead I'm going to do Marvel Comics' Fred Dukes, aka The Blob. Navy cargo pants, black Doc Marten-type Sketchers, Brotherhood of Evil Mutants T-shirt, vest, fingerless gloves, prop weapon - a wrapping paper tube painted to look like galvanized metal (ie a fence post) with a styrofoam cinderblock at the end.

I feel like I need to make one of my next cosplays the new Miss Fortune skin, because I love it so. SHE EVEN HAS FRECKLES!

My daughter wants to be Teen Titans Starfire for Halloween now, and I have to decide if I should let her midrift it or put fleshtone fabric in the middle. Practically speaking, I should probably go with fleshtone fabric, just because of weather. Though I could just get a fleshtone unitard for trick or treating purposes so she could potentially use it at Denver Comic Con and not die/melt. Though, she's 10, and I worry about other people yelling at me for sexualizing her, because blah blah blah. I am debating being Raven, but I have gained 15 pounds this year so I hate all costumes right now.

Yeah, the fleshtone should be the way to go for the weather alone. When I was 10 I went as the Little Mermaid for Halloween, and we made a long-sleeve, flesh colored top that attached to the tail and shells for the same reasons (10 yrs old, cold weather).

And speaking of cosplay: I will be so happy to get this friggin' wig done. I have never had to build a wig before and it is slowly making me crazy.

Daughter's cosplay for DCC is nearing completion, haven't even started mine beyond buying materials, even though it's more complicated, because PROCRASTINATION.

I also got to meet Doug Jones (Silver Surfer, Abe Sapien, numerous others):

Family and I did a group Steven Universe cosplay at Otakon this year, at which I managed to barely get a decent photo of our entire group together. I know some other people got us all, because they'd stop our group to take photos of us, but I haven't found any of theirs yet. But I do have divided photos!

We probably aren't doing another family cosplay until 2018 unless someone wins the lottery. They're all brainstorming ideas, but I think everyone should hold off until we get at least into 2017. Like, right now I want to try finding a way to cosplay as the Incredible Hulk, but by 2018 I might not want to do that anymore.

The cosplay contest at Denver Comic Con this year is going to be on my birthday. I am campaigning hard to get all of my friends to enter with me as my birthday present.

Been researching what it would take to get the right clothing to do a Doctor Thomas Light costume. Who knew how hard it would be to find maroon-colored pants for a fat guy?

It's hard to find the right color for things off the rack in general.

My newest variant of my Mario costume. Kind of took the lazy way out and mutilated a pair of small costume angel wings.

I'm thinking for my next Mario variant of making Cappy from Mario Odyssey. And maybe I'm thinking too ambitiously, but I would like to be able to make the eyes movable. I've been looking up cable-controlled puppetry and whatnot to get some ideas.

Neat idea. If the cable control option doesn't work, I've run across a number of electronic projects that create animated eyes. And if all else fails, it looks like giant googly eyes are readily available.


Also, if you really want to challenge yourself:

Whenever I buy something XXL, generally I expect it to fit slightly loosely, or be way too small.
Unlike this jacket, which you could fit two of me inside. Still waiting on my Blue Sun t-shirt and combat boots.

It's definitely too big for me. I think if I cloned myself, walked up to myself and gave myself a hug, I might still be able to zip it up with both of me inside of it.

New jacket fits so much better. It's ostensibly for people from 160-180 lbs. I call bullshit It still makes me look a little pear-shaped at the hips, and I am not.

I still say if you put some tape on your glasses and get a tan vest, you're a shoo-in for Hoffman from B4B

If you get tired of doing Jayne you could also switch it up and go Travis Bickle. Two cosplays for the price of one!

I'll keep it in mind if I ever decide to go all in on cosplay. But I don't know this game or this character, so it doesn't mean much to me
