Video Game News and Miscellany

If there's one thing that Spirits Within had going for it, it was the movie that woke hollywood actors up to the fact that they don't have to agree to star in a movie.

Why use possibly in that headline. With Konami scrubbing Kojima's name from Metal Gear Solid 5 so hard I don't think there's any relationship left there.

Angry Joe no likey the new Godzilla game:

Angry Joe no know how to play new Godzilla game. "Get nothing for destroying buildings so go for the generator." Nope. "What does destruction level mean?" Sigh.

Which is fine; the game tells you how to play, but I know people hate tutorial stuff, and even then, the game's not for everyone. But it's one thing to hate the game and it's another thing to throw in this shit:

"Anyone who says this game is good knows nothing about good video games." Go fuck yourself, Joe. You gave Dragon Age 2 a positive review.

Take this news with a grain of salt, since these are the same guys that reported that Microsoft were buying the Silent Hills franchise. But even if part of it is true? As a long-time fan of the series, this makes me incredibly sad.

It depresses me how much sense this made.

WiiU Zelda is still on track, Metroid is "up to developers."

This quote, though, bugs me:

“Metroid is really up to our game developers to decide how best to create new and different experiences. This Metroid experience [Federation Force] offers a local multiplayer feature that could be a lot of fun for game fans and we hope fans try it out and come to their own conclusions,” Moffitt said. “I have nothing more to announce about a Metroid game for Wii U but let’s be happy for what we have. We’ve got something and let’s experience it and hope fans will enjoy.”
There's two things that define Metroid to me; exploration and isolation. If they want to deliver a new experience, why not expand on the feeling of fear used in Fusion, with the Samus X chasing you? There's got to be a better way to keep Metroid alive than a loosely-affiliated game that looks like it was developed with the Super FX chip. Telling people to "be happy with what they have" after the huge wave of negative response seems pretty callous, too.

As I've done more reading on Federation Force, it actually seems like it could be a really good game.

But, everyone is right that it's not really Metroid and now isn't really the time for a spin-off. The "be happy" suggests to me that there really aren't any plans for a more classic or even Prime style Metroid game in the near future. We could be looking at the last game with Metroid in its title until someone down the line believes a revival is in order. I hope that isn't true though.

As for Zelda Wii U, I see that as being in a Twilight Princess situation, coming out so late for its intended system that it will double as a launch title for the next system, so we'll have Wii U and NX versions of the same game.

I was thinking the same thing about the new Zelda. 2016 still sounds like a reasonable release, but they're starting to say less about that and more about "when it's done," seems like.

I'm guessing having an open world game was a bigger undertaking for Nintendo than they at first anticipated. Knowing them, we could be getting a very different game by release than what we've seen. I remember when the big Zelda game for Gamecube was going to look a lot like Twilight Princess. Then suddenly Wind Waker came out of the blue, new visual style, new story, new everything.

This thread has reminded me that Metroid Fusion and the Prime Trilogy are available via eShop for 3DS/Wii U respectively.

Good job, thread!
Metroid Fusion is not available on the 3DS eshop. Sorry. Gameboy Advance games are only for Wii U.

I don't expect this to change until the NX.

Unless you were part of the Ambassador Program, in which case Metroid Fusion was one of the free games you got on the 3DS.

Apparently Harebrained Schemes (Shadowrun Returns) next project is:

A new Mechcommanderish game.

Yay!

Shadowrun Returns, SR: Dragonfall, and SR: Hong Kong made me love Shadowrun again, instead of bitching about the frankly ridiculous dice mechanics. If they can do a similar job of capturing the spirit of the game with MechWarrior, I'm totally sold.

Holy shit man.

I was fine with SR... truly. I love Shadowrun, I wish more of it was out there... I just played Dragonfall... prolly my fav game since Alien : Isolation, best RPG for quite some time.

I hope HK is just as good.

But Battletech?

OH SHIT

Holy fucking shit guys, Konami is making a new Castlevania Pachinko Game.

Big plot spoiler here

EROTIC VIOLENCE!

DIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What is Konami?

A miserable little pile of cash grabs!

What the fuck, Konami? What the actual fuck? I mean, it's bad enough they've been slowly strangling most of their prized franchises to death, but now, to see them literally fucking the corpse of one of their flagship series...

Didn't Ashburner predict exactly this?
Eh, it's like predicting snow in December. This is what Konami is now.

No one, however, could have predicted EROTIC VIOLENCE!

Also, I really want to play Mech Commander 1 again, but last time I tried it was janky and didn't play friendly with Windows 7.
