[Movies] Talk about the last movie you saw 2: Electric Threadaloo

The Last Stand

I was in the mood for a dumb action flick and that's exactly what I got. Definitely dumb and action-y but it fits perfectly into my favourite category: P.F.A. Pretty Fucking Awesome. You had some funny moments, some really well directed action, some surprisingly good car chases, and of course, Arnie.

Recommended if you're down for that kind of flick.

finally got around to seeing The Dark Knight Rises
I liked it. It isn't without problems, but honestly a lot of the biggest complaints I heard about it, didn't bug me at all. Not the best of the series, no, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Thought it wrapped things up pretty well, too.

Despicable Me 2

I'm basically a big kid at heart, so I enjoyed it, the same way I enjoyed the first one. It's basically very similar to the first one, not much innovation, and going with the proven formula. Also, someone realized that the minions were the best parts of the first film, so there are a lot more minion antics in the sequel.

Despicable Me 2

My family enjoyed the first, so we went right away. As is often the case with sequels, this one is a bit weaker. It was played more for laughs. My 9 year old son even said, "The story was more boring. I think they only wanted to make jokes." The minions played a much bigger role, which isn't surprising given their appeal. I won't be at all surprised to see the inevitable Minion spin-off movie or cartoon series.

It's already in the works.

Despicable Me spin-off Minions. The film is currently slated to open in theaters on December 19, 2014.
Instead of continuing the Despicable Me storyline, the Minions movie will tell the origin story of everyone’s favorite yellow sidekicks. The spin-off will bring a handful of talented actors and actresses to the franchise for the first time.

I thought the opening scene of DM2 was going to be a flashback showing the minion origin. Those scientists all had goggles and yellow coats, and acted similar to the minions.

World War Z: I enjoyed it well enough. I'd hate to think how bad the original ending was. I was glad that the Zombie tidal wave from the trailers were not all that prevalent through the movie.

Went to go see "This is The End" with family last night. Enjoyable, guffaw-worthy with some eyerolling at the layperson's understanding of the book of revelation. I was able to put up with the people being idiots because they were portrayed as obviously idiots from the start (kinda like Shaun of the Dead), so I wasn't yelling "OH COME ON DON'T DO THAT WHO WOULD DO THAT" well, obviously, pampered hollywood idiots who have never had to fend for themselves would do that.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is one of my favorite movies of all time. You should all be court ordered to watch it if you haven't.

It is definitely my number one favorite film of all time. There is just so much right with it. I love the beautiful animation. I love the noir setting. I love Bob Hoskin's amazing performance, especially considering that most of his supporting cast were not even on set with him at filming. This was very much the love-child of Robert Zemeckis. You could tell that he really wanted to create the ultimate mix of cartoon/live-action without trying to take short cuts. This is something that no other film before or SINCE has ever managed to achieve. Even the last two Looney-Tunes/Live Action movies cheated by having any props the cartoon characters interacted with suddenly turn animated or CGI. Zemeckis had them make a FREAKING DRINKING BOT just so Roger could throw back a real shot glass. That's dedication right there.
On top of all that it's the first and last time you will ever see Disney and Warner Brothers characters in the same movie. Which, unfortunately, Disney execs quickly ruined by monopolizing all rights to Roger Rabbit, when it was supposed to be a shared franchise.
The movie is one of the greatest works of fantasy ever. If you have not seen it you are doing yourself a great disservice.

IRON SKY - It was better than I figured it was going to be. I went in expecting something so dumb it wouldn't even be funny, and yet it did manage to impress me on some levels. I especially had to laugh at...
James Washington explaining to the cops that he was once a black model who was turned into a white hobo by the moon nazis.
The visuals aren't too bad. There's a few groaner special effects, but I was impressed with a good majority of the Nazi technology used in the film. The political satire layers it on a little much, but I guess for this movie it works fine in the end.

Two-fer:
Two Headed Shark and Sharknado.

I don't have the love of bad film my sister does (she honestly owes and frequently sits me down for Uwe Boll movies/marathons) and these are two of the big ones. I have to say, I didn't enjoy either one. I have a rule about horror movies: Tits and Gore. Is that so hard? How is it possible that both of these movies had neither? Considering they -starred- Tara Reid and Carmen Electra?

Ugh.

I just realized something. You know what all the best family films of the 80s have in common. At least one pants wettingly terrifying scene amidst all the family friendly stuff.

Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory- Boat ride
Who Framed Roger Rabbit- The Judge and those eyes.
Gremlins- the creepy ass story about the girlfriend's father or when stripe's skeleton jumps out of the fountain
etc...

I think that Judge Doom's reveal was the only scene that actually made sense for the movie it was in though.

OK, some others that fit the story and don't come out of nowhere-

Ghostbusters- librarian
Raiders of the Lost Arc- Face melting Nazis
Legend- Half the damn movie

The scene that creeped me and other kids out in Roger Rabbit was the shoe.

The pighead scene was creepy yes, but the shoe scene HORRIFIED me as a kid cos well its a silly cartoon being slowly murdered. That shoe's eyes haunt me.

Saw Frankenweenie tonight(well technically last night) and MAN was it just okay. I loved the art style, but the plot felt less like a film written intended for theaters and more a pilot for Nickelodeon. I liked the several homages to B-movies and horror, but it didn't do anything with them that was exceptionally hilarious or that clever. Also the 3-D scenes were MAD obvious.

I liked Frankenweenie. It had the unfortunate task of going up against Paranorman in the same time period, though and Paranorman is just excellent.

One thing that bugs me about the film
did Mr.Whiskers really need to die? He was just a dumb cat, did he have to get staked?
I will admit to really loving the parent teacher conference, that was funny as hell.

Well, for one thing, it was nice to finally like a Tim Burton movie again.

Why do you keep hurting me, Tim Burton, when all I want to do is love you?

How did Burton go so wrong with Alice?

"the goal is to try to make it an engaging movie where you get some of the psychology and kind of bring a freshness but also keep the classic nature of Alice." On prior versions, Burton said "It was always a girl wandering around from one crazy character to another, and I never really felt any real emotional connection." His goal with the new movie is to give the story "some framework of emotional grounding" and "to try and make Alice feel more like a story as opposed to a series of events."[13] -From the Wiki article

Oh right....

Yeah, he did a great job turning it into the same old "teenager of destiny in a fantasy land who learns lessons to take back to the real world" story we've seen a thousand times. Burton was really breaking new ground treading the same path as Narnia and Warriors of Virtue.

Despicable Me 2 - had fun but damn movies are pricey these days. Friggin $80 to take me and two kids. I liked the villain tho, an Squidleybits has already forbidden me to do an impersonation of him.
