[TV] The What Anime Are You Watching Thread!

The second episode of Shield Hero was pretty wholesome.
That's part of why I am extra dismissive of the supposed controversy... the rest of this series is just as fluffy as Reincarnated as a Slime, if I'm completely honest. They used up all their edge at the start.

If you're an aviation nerd with a thing for WWII-era Japanese fighters, then I've got the show for you. Kouya no Kotobuki Hikoutai. The spiritual successor to Third Girls Fighter Wing from the director of Shirobako. Some of the best air combat sequences you'll see... and hear. You need headphones to get the full effect of the drone of the engines, the roar of the wind, and the thunk-thunk-thunk as bullets hit metal. Really deserves to be seen on the largest screen you can get your hands on. If you even think about watching this on your phone, you deserve a good smack.

One interesting design decision might put people off. The regular characters are CG, while bit players and one-shots are hand-drawn. And often the two will mix in the same shot. Can be a bit jarring, but I'm here for the aerial scenes.

Today, I've discovered the wonder that is anime dub blooper reels.

How, do you ask? Simple: there's a blooper reel for Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid.

I mentioned this in Discord, but here it is for the thread, too...

This week's Slime episode was basically playing "How much of Milim's asscrack can we show and get away with it?"

I remember they answered this on The Man Show with Adam Carolla and Jimmy Kimmel. The answer is, 3/4ths of the asscrack can be shown.

I appreciate what that guy is trying to say, but I think he forgot that (for example) Ranma 1/2 was a thing, and was TOTALLY a harem anime, with zero fanservice, 25 years ago. So "wholesome" harem isn't a new success story.
I think the current trend of "wholesome" anime series is a direct response to the 2000's era of -everything- being fanservicey, sometimes to the point of being basically porn, because that was the market that was consistently buying Merch. A lot of people just kind of stopped watching shows because there was nothing on for them.

Seriously... if you told me a few years back that a wholesome series about girls driving tanks would become one of my favorite shows of all time, I'd have never believed you. Or that a short series about a skeleton working in a bookstore would be my favorite series of the year.

And it's still goofy, tropey fun 25yrs later.
I would say, "Even after Ranma jumped the shark," but it didn't so much jump the shark as it did bridle it and enter it in a competitive steeplechase circuit.
