[Movies] The DC Cinematic Universe - The David Zazlav Dumpster Fire.

I would argue that the DC pantheon are more prominent in pop culture and that you could get away with super brief introductions to them. Far more people are familiar with Flash and Aquaman than they were with Iron Man and Thor purely through cartoons and stuff.

I know I've been out of the loop for a bit, but Wonderwoman was a complete knock off of Captain America. I just don't see the praise it's gotten. Personally, I thought BvS was better.

I might still go to Justice League just to see.

Though I've still not seen Thor: Ragnarok, so I got no business at the movies until I've done that anyway.

I'm of the opinion that most origin stories in movies, especially origin stories of characters that are already popular, are just some writer/director/producer's attempt to put their own spin on "how it must have gone down."

I think another part of it may be that the WW versions look more similar to each other. There are differences and variations, but it still looks like a uniform, and the Amazons look like an army. The JL versions are all very different, so it just looks like a bunch of women in their own leather bikinis.

Huh, I guess I really do have a thing for women in uniform.

You're right. The JL version just looks cheap and sloppy.

I just received the worst e-mail ever.

Tickets to a free screening of Justice League.

I'm tempted to go dressed up as Thor.
It's a free screening, so you're not contributing financially to the movie. And you can come back with your feedback and tell us whether we should go.

Do eeeeet, Nick! Take one for the team! :D

I'ma see it on Friday. I do premiere nights for Marvel movies on ly, the Snyderverse ain't makin' me get home late to Jersey making me bike in this iceball weather.

Even though, in a not suspicious at all move, the review embargo hasn't been lifted, the social media reactions are available. The consensus seems to be that the cast is engaging and fun and the movie itself is ok-ish. It has lots of action with a forgettable villain and a weak story. The best reaction that I've run across is from someone who hasn't seen the movie yet:

Ben Affleck "contemplating" playing Batman in The Batman film.

It's interesting how he's gradually backed out of his involvment in the DCEU.

First, he was all excited to be Batman in BvS.
Then, they announced he was writing, directing, and starring in a new Batman solo film. Which, given his history behind the camera, would've been awesome. Even I would've broken my promise not to see any DCEU films for an Affleck written/directed Batfilm.
Then he was just starring and directing.
Then he was just starring.
And now he's "contemplating" even that.

I guess Affleck doesn't want to be Official Chair Mover on the Titanic.

Matt Reeves is still a good choice for writer/director. Hopefully WB gives him plenty of freedom, after how well he did with Dawn of/War for the Planet of the Apes. And Affleck's movie would've had Deathstroke as the main villain. Hopefully that's been put to rest now.[DOUBLEPOST=1510679080,1510679041][/DOUBLEPOST]
If I was merely disinterested before, the "ZACK SNYDER!" pushes me towards "fuck this movie" territory.
"Lots of slow-mo!"

Not a good thing, reviewer!

This is what happens when you spend 2015 announcing a dozen movies, but fail to move any of them into pre-production until mid-2016. Even now that WB has trimmed the list and practically given up on getting The Flash moving, I'm not confident how many of those movies will actually get made. Aquaman for certain, then Shazam and Wonder Woman 2. Beyond that, I'm doubtful. On the upshot, all three of those have more going for them than some of the already-released movies in this franchise, and Wonder Woman 2 doesn't even have a script yet.

I think people's reactions to Justice League is going to make or break a lot of their plans for the DCEU. And by people I mean the general populace, not the handful of freaks ready to tear anyone apart who suggests Zack Snyder has ever made anything less than a flawless film.

Wonder Woman 2 can't move forward unless they recast Gal Gadot. She's made it clear she won't reprise the role unless Brent Ratner isn't involved in the project. Considering he's a key financier and producer, it's entirely possible they'll just tell her to shove it or just not do the sequel.
