HF Secret Santa 2014: Better Late Than Never Edition

*whew* The tracking said you got it days ago. I was thinking maybe you hated it or something! What's funny is the shipping cost more than the gift!!

So glad you like it!
Yeah, Tress said in a private message that it said it'd arrived, but I didn't get anything. So confused. And it's armadillo related. Of COURSE I'm going to like it. Not sure how much it'll be used as a drink/bottle holder, but it's now a permanent resident on my desk. Not sure what to call him, yet. Can't call him Dill, since that's the stuffed animal. :D

Ah, the sweetness of seeing messages on Steam about free games. @ThatNickGuy was awesome and hooked me up with THREE games on Steam: The Banner Saga, Kingdom Rush, and Ace Patrol - Pacific Skies. That's a crazy, fantastic slew of gifts! Thanks!

So I came home to find a package waiting for me!!

:D
You are very welcome, last year's recipient also received a LEGO minifigure, so it is now a tradition. The pound sign thing is the symbol for Oslo's public transportation company Ruter, these highly reflective things are meant to hang on a bag or bike for increased visibility (as they have long periods of darkness), I grabbed several from a ticket station, I hope they were meant to be free. I also made an assumption that you or someone you like has a smartphone that can make use of the cardboard.

I have a smartphone and have already assembled the DoDoCase VR and it is awesome :D

Whomever my Secret Santa is, this was excellent! Now I just gotta find a place to put it up. The thing is HUGE!! Millions of thanks!
I'm glad you liked it.

Thanks go to @stienman, who provided a sounding board for the idea, @Far who supplied the original image, @HCGLNS who helped me figure out how to replace @Squidleybits avatar, Phoebe the Customer Support Hero at Zazzle for helping me figure out a copyright issue, and AndreaMosaic for providing the freeware that generated the final image.

The image was created by taking a screenshot of the website, blurring it a bit, and then inserting the original Durr picture over the top of it. The avatars were scraped from Halforums using a VBscript I adapted for the purpose. I manually cleared out all of the null avatars and at least some of the duplicate avatars. That left me with 316 images. I used AndreaMosaic to create the final image out of 10000 tiles. The settings I used were: no tile rotation, no tile overlap, no duplicates within 5 cells, 7% color shift, and must use every tile at least once*. The final image was 6400x6400 and intended to be printed on a 32"x32" square poster. (This actually wasn't the biggest option!) I submitted the image to Zazzle... and had it rejected! There were 2 avatars, out of the 316, that were at issue. I removed 1 of the avatars that belonged to an inactive user and replaced the other with a @HCGLNS approved image.

*Although it looks like everyone was included, there were only two avatars that I specifically looked at to make sure they were used -- that of Dave and that of North Ranger. I believe each avatar only appears once.

Man that was a lot of work! You rule! There is duplication of avatars, but who cares? I actually am taking down a Dallas Cowboys poster to put this up!

@Ravenpoe, your package is apparently in Jacksonville... they're not giving a projected delivery date, but I can't imagine it will be long now...

Hello, what is this?

A package appears in yonder mailbox!

And what to my wondering eyes should appear:

Well, of COURSE I need A-Rod12 to complete a Packers gift set!

THANK YOU @Tress!

There is going to be some duplication since there are fewer avatars than mosaic cells. The difference is that there aren't areas that are solid blocks of a single avatar.

I could look at that image forever and not find me.
If it helps, here is a link to the original:

I was actually surprised at how many of the lo-res images were recognizable.

Also, I can verify that it makes a great conversation-starter when set as the wallpaper of a work computer.

Yay!!! So glad you liked it :D It took a couple of batches to get exactly right. And please do write me if you want--I love mail. Merry Christmas!

If you have not yet received your gift, especially if you never got an update about it, please send me a PM.

Hey Secret Santa! Is my package supposed to be coming from China? Because I just got something in the mail today but didn't have any information. I want to make sure its from you before I post the pictures.
