[Rant] Minor Rant III: For a Few Hollers More

Caesar salad dressing guys!

Not easy to make a salad with a bandaged hand.

Oh and small rant: the doctor missed some stitches and I had to go back to have more out....it's a yucky spot to have poked at.

Rant over :)

Since I'm having fun sharing all my woes lately, I have an MRI scheduled today on my leg because they think I may have a Baker's cyst. So, that's fun.

I messaged a cute girl on Plenty of Fish awhile back. She was much younger than I: only 24. But her profile came across as much more grounded than the average early 20-something. She responded positively, to which I responded back...but then I heard nothing back from her.

And now I see why: in my e-mail, I incorrectly spelled "you're" as "your," one of my most hated common spelling mistakes that I've harped on many people about in the past.

I JINXED MYSELF!

I got messaged by a girl on OKC the other day who was 18 and listed 9/11 conspiracy theories as a hobby. She was 6 when it happened.

Nope.

[DOUBLEPOST=1365453444][/DOUBLEPOST]In my own online dating news:

Ever since I uploaded the picture of me holding my book and mentioning it on my profile, there's been a significant increase in messages. Huh, so writers really do get the pussy. :p

One woman, however, unintentionally (?) insulted me right out of the gate. She said, "Congratulations on the book! I sure hope it's not a comic!"

To which I responded simply, "Why? What would be so wrong with it being a comic?"

Lady, word of advice. Don't go insulting the huge comic book nerd who has a graduation photo doing a shirt-opening Superman pose.

I feel like you should have gone on a date just for the story. "After we put on our tinfoil hats, she explained how DARPA's time-travel program installed Obama as leader in 1976..."

I got lucky. I joined OKCupid and met a girl immediately (like, within an hour of joining) and dated her for about 6 months. Either my heart still isn't in it just yet, or it's much harder the second time around.

For those who don't know/remember, I met the love of my life at a "Weird" Al Yankovic concert.
A good time was had by all.

The message I'm getting from you guys is "Meet strangers on the internet, fall in love."

Do you all have Stockholm Syndrome or were my parents just wrong about their warnings?

Joking aside, and I know the sample size here is small and likely skewed, but I may have to reconsider my previous kneejerk rejection of online dating.

But the crazy ones are the best in bed! Didn't you always want a "crazy ex" to refer back to? Bonus points because she's 18 :p

I met my wife on eHarmony after 1 week of a paid subscription (I think I got 3 months for the price of 1). Her story was very similar.[DOUBLEPOST=1365503682][/DOUBLEPOST]One of my OKcupid horror stories was a young college girl that I started chatting with via text shortly after writing her via the site. We got into a conversation about a report she was doing on Nazi Germany. I don't remember exactly what I said to upset her, but I think it was something along the lines of many people in Germany at the time were effectively brainwashed by fear tactics used by their government. Fear of the "enemy". Fear of their own government. Etc. Basically that not everyone is inherently evil, but the majority of them are easily manipulated.
She DID... NOT... LIKE ...THAT.
After a slightly awkward conversation regarding the nature of man she asked me what I thought of the movie Inglorious Basterds. I told her I quite enjoyed the film. SHE... FLIPPED
Apparently I was a Nazi sympathizer and Jew Hater for my appreciation of a film that was clearly marketed towards the Neo Nazi movement.
I had to ask her "Uh... did we see the same movie?".

On the whole, Online Dating is much better than when many of the horror stories of it first started... mainly because virtually everyone does it now.

I met my wife in the band hall, in high school. No, there are no stories of "One year at band camp..." I was a soccer player.
