[TV] Talk about the last TV you watched, the catchall thread

Watched the Nickelodeon Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles this morning. I think that I'm actually liking what they've done with this series. They're doing well with the stories and the characterization, but it has taken a little for the animation style to grow on me.

Yeah, I think it turned out pretty well. It still has the great action and humor of the 80's/90's series, but with enough of the seriousness from the 2000's series. I REALLY dig the redesigns of the turtles though... they all have distinct looks and builds now.

Its like a mix of the 80s show and the Mirage comic, I freaking love it! I especially love the KRAANG, and how their a good mix of the Utroms and the 87 villain.

I binged on the last season of 8 Out of 10 Cats on youtube. I think I may actually be physically addicted to British panel shows.

I love watching TV from other countries and how they can't believe that Romney even had a shot at winning the presidency being totally batshit insane.

Finished Scrubs, and by that I mean season 8, with its beautiful ending. What's weird is, this is the second time I've finished the series, so I've seen all these hundreds of episodes twice now... and yet I still miss it when it's over.

Also, Ted is the best.

I love that ending. That series and I did not always get along, but I enjoyed that final season.

FYI, since pretty much no one ever watched it besides me it seems, Ted showed up as an actual character on Cougar Town. The guy who played Courney Cox's father on that show is the same person who played Dr. Kelso on Scrubs. There was a running gag in the episode where Ted was terrified of him and couldn't figure out why.

I get to binge on Law and Order reruns on Saturday and Sunday mornings when I'm working.

Never fails to have customers come in right at the climax of an act. Doubly so at the end of the episode. :p

Watched the first 4 episodes of Supernatural and really liked it. Gonna have to get moving on the rest of the series.
Seasons 1-5 are amazing and all fall into the same overarching story. Season 6 is pretty slow, but Season 7 makes up for it. Season 8 is going pretty well so far.

Watching a season five episode of Monk, where Randy's uncle died. Good episode but I remember episodes earlier Randy said he didn't have an uncle. Confusing.

Apparently they expected the show to be cancelled at the end of season 5 so tried to wrap up the story arc there. This kind of left them hanging for the remaining seasons. Season 6-7 were both pretty meh to me, and season 8 started along the same vein but this last episode really got me interested again.

One thing about Supernatural that impresses me is it can manage to be genuinely creepy. Watched the Bloody Mary and shapeshifter episodes last night and bad fx aside, they had bits that were unnerving.

This is entirely untrue. Eric Kripke roughly plotted out the first 5 seasons before he ever went into production, as he wanted a myth arc to keep the story moving between seasons. He also didn't expect the series to last past season 5 because most shows in this vein ether fizzle out at Season 1 or fall to contract disputes when it's time to renegotiate after Season 5. However, this and the Vampire Chronicles are basically the only two hits the CW has anymore so they didn't put up much of a fight when it was time to renegotiate.

Eric Kripke still didn't stick around though. He wasn't sure if he could keep things fresh and didn't want Supernatural to turn out like Twin Peaks.

So by "entirely untrue", you mean he pretty much nailed it? Because I'm not seeing much difference between the two accounts. There's a slight difference in that Necronic's explanation makes it sounds like wrapping things up at the end of season 5 was made later than right at the beginning, but that doesn't change the basic idea that material wasn't written for post-season 5 until they found out that "oh, we're actually going to have a season 6".

I did make it sound like it was a hail Mary decision, and if you watch the first five seasons you can see that it wasn't, it was well laid out. But they clearly had zero fuckig clue what to do after the fifth season. The story arcs are all pretty terrible (until maybe now.)

I actually liked the stuff with the Leviathans, if only because it completely changed the dynamic of the show. Suddenly it wasn't Sam and Dean hunting stuff down like a couple of bad asses, it was Sam and Dean sleeping in abandoned buildings because anyone and everyone could be the things hunting them. The actually plan got pretty goofy (they want to turn us into timid, sedentary cattle? They are going to make FACTORIES to process us? Come on!) but it was still a much needed change of pace.

That said, Season 8 has been pretty awesome so far. It's taken the elements I liked from Season 7 (You don't know who to trust anymore), but put in much more serious threats and relationship stuff. This is probably the best it's been since Season 4-5.

I've just gotten into another period drama called "The Paradise." It reminds me a bit of Downton Abbey in that they have more modern-friendly story lines. Also, I finished the last episode in American Horror Story: Asylum. It left some to be desired, but what can I say? It was enjoyable!

Which version are you watching, TV clean or cable filthy?

It's cancellation was pretty bizarre. It was one of Space's most popular shows, it was low budget, surprisingly critically acclaimed and it was being picked up out the wazoo in dozens of foreign markets.

Wow, a critically acclaimed cult show was cancelled? Haven't seen that happened...for at least a few months. By the darkness I am jaded.

And for anyone who hasn't seen this season of 30 Rock-CATCH UP! In the newest one-
Kenneth became president of NBC and Liz adopts a mini Jenna and Tracy! YES! FUCK YES! Mostly for Ken becoming president of NBC but still FUCK YES!

I'm watching it on Netflix and it's the cable version.

One of the things I love about it is that it shuns CGI for the most part and instead uses practical effects, which owns. I'm sad that when I hit the end on Netflix, that's all there is.

Fringe

I'd watched a good chunk of the first season a few years back but it didn't grab me enough. I think at the time, the last disc or two were rented out and I kept forgetting to rent them to the point that I lost interest (or forgot) in continuing.

Anyway, I'm now two thirds of the way through the second season and really digging it. It's still very episodic and sometimes feels like a monster of the week kind of show, but there's just enough mystery to keep going. Some episodes feel like total filler, but they're enjoyable enough.

One thing that had me laughing my ass off was in an episode regarding a super virus. The CDC showed a computer simulation of a worldwide breakout, with widening red circles across the globe...except Madagascar. They must've figured Madagascar would SHUT. DOWN. EVERYTHING.

Re-watching DS9 with my Canadian roomie who is a huge TNG fan but never saw DS9. He already loves it. I haven't seen the 1st or 2nd season in such a long time its almost like watching it the first time. The pace of the show and the immediate depth is readily apparent especially after just re-watching a lot of TNG.

I started watching it a couple of months ago, and now am on the season 4 finale. My one regret is that season 5 isn't free for Amazon Prime members yet. It's a really good show, they've impressed me several times with episodes ideas or plot twists I never would have expected.

Yeah, I noticed that at the time too, and had much the same response.
