What Comic Book is This?

So a friend of mine posted this description on FaceBook. I know next to nothing about comic books. I figured you guys could help out.

I am looking for a comic series where a child becomes a superhero and at the end of the 6-12 book series we find out the child died in a car accident that originally gave him his powers.

Any ideas?

I...honestly have no idea. That doesn't sound even remotely familiar. Seriously, that doesn't sound like a comic I'd easily forget.

Huh. The irony is that I HAVE read it. I remember it being pretty good, too. Apparently not good enough to remember much about it.
