Terrik's Taiwan/China thread

So I'm off to be best man in a wedding in Taiwan and taking a trip to China the entire month of May.

Now I don't usually like taking pictures

But instead of polluting the new picture thread for the next 4 weeks, come here if you want to see weird Asian stuff and certain special guest stars :awesome:

I'm in Taiwan and pretty tired, so here's some shit that looks pretty from the air.
All locations were determined by Google maps at the time.

Over the Louisiana river

Crazy clouds over Arkansas

Nicer clouds near Louisiana/Arkansas

Getting into Arizona

Carrizo canyon area, New Mexico

More desert and rock

The Grand Canyon. Always wanted to See it. Didn't know I'd do it this way.

Airfield in the middle of nowhere

Lake mead/colorado river/nellis air force base area

Flying towards Yosemite national park

Yosemite valley

California and into San Francisco

And finally on the way for some actual rest in Taiwan

And this piece of shit sorbet I had on the flight.

Both bottles of rum made it. Also I think I might use Jun's laptop to upload next time. Think tappatalk resizes the pictures.

That's the Mississippi River, a few miles north of Vickburg, Mississippi, the kinda really small town in the photo to the left of the big bend is Transylvania, Louisiana.

I feel like I have about a hundred pictures to post but I haven't had a free hour in about a week and a half. once I take a trip down south I might have some free time. Also I've had 6 bottles of baijiu in 2 days. I think I started to develop a resistance.

in the meantime here's me my wife and my sister-in-law

That area looks familiar....

If you come upon an area with a whole lot of hot springs with bamboo poles sticking out of them, don't fall in the water.

In fact, maybe just avoid the area altogether.

Yay, I got a free hour, so here's a few shots from yesterday @ the Lijiang river (where it literally rained the entire day, into my face, on a boat, with no cover, and I scrambled to keep my camera dry). Also a few shows from the "Impressions" show, which was quite good, and this morning's Chinese noodle breakfast.

Well, I was finally going to get to the Taiwan pictures and other Yangshuo pictures, but Jun wanted me to root through the Longji rice terrace pictures first. Gonna spit this into two posts because of lots of pictures and reasons and things. These pictures should include the day / early morning of the longji area + the long hair village

Man that took forever to upload. Well that's the second half of the longji photos.

On another note, I'm really tired. That getting up at 4am and climbing up steep half-cut rock stairs in the rain is finally catching up to me.

Now that I have another rare, free moment, I wanted to post some of the pics from the very first leg in the trip--Taiwan + the Wedding. This has pics from the bride's home + surrounding area (Technically Taipei, but far enough out to feel like somewhere else), one of the night markets @bhamv3 suggested (Tonghua, I believe), as well a some pics from an area a bit farther out called Jiufen.

All of these were taken on my LG V10 phone. Its not too bad for a phone, but its not quite my DSLR + 17-55 Canon EF-S lens that I used for the Longji terraces.

There are always people complaining that the food in Chinese restaurants here in Germany is not authentic, but looking at the pictures of the buffet I don't see any differences from the all you can eat buffet I can have at a local restaurant.

Anyway, great pictures, many thanks for sharing them with us.

Welp, looks like I get to reupload Terrik: The Early Years again when I get back to the states. In the meantime, here is what I've been doing in China for the last week:

Also I'm going to try an imgur format.

Ok sweet, it works.

Here's a video of the short ride I took to get the rice:

And I took a hyperlapse video of the train trip from shanghai to Wuxi. About 30 minutes compressed to 2 minutes. The train generally moves at 300 kph.

That'll do it for now. I'll upload some other stuff later.
