Twentieth Century Fox and Electronic Arts are teaming up to turn Will Wright's PC game Spore into an animated movie, Variety reports.

The director and CG-animation studio behind the Ice Age movies will work on the Spore film.

\"From every perspective -- visually, thematically and comedically -- the world of Spore provides the potential to put something truly original on the screen,\" director Chris Wedge tells Variety.

Members of Maxis, the studio behind the god game released last year, will assist in production of the movie. No word yet on a release date.

The move is the latest in Electronic Arts' efforts to bring their video game franchises to other forms of media, such as movies, comics and television. Comic books have been created or are in the works for series such as Dead Space and Dante's Inferno. Last year, EA partnered with a talent agency to help them push their franchises outside video games.
Really? Spore was hardly a game (more a toy) and there's material there to be a movie? What exactly is the 'World of Spore'? Door to door alien salesmen? Well, if they're making a movie of Monopoly and Asteroids, I guess Spore has just as much merit.

It'll be the rags to riches tale of the Penis and Balls monsters and their rise from tribal village to intergalactic peace keepers.

*nervously pulls at his collar* Ooooh. That might make the censor groups teste.

I'd watch Minesweeper:The Movie before I watch Spore.
