So today an imaginary friend of mine died.

I got asked to join a comedy troupe. And by this I mean an already established group that has shows all over the country - like Second City. So my questions had to be answered a little faster than what I'd have hoped, but it was for the best in the end, I think.

I turned them down. As much as I want to keep doing comedy, I think the price would be too high. So my alter ego, Dave DeLong, has been officially retired. Oh, I'll still do some stand-up now & again if Workhouse gets hired for it, but I'm not going to waste time or effort to chase an elusive dream. You guys actually helped me see the big picture and I thank you for it.

So there you have it. For the second time I'm giving up my dream for my family and a more comfortable and consistent life. And as with the last time, I'm totally at peace with this decision. Omaha is nice this time of year. I think I'll stick around and enjoy it.

We don't always give up our dreams, sometimes we just realize they take a different form than we imagined.

Did that sound deep? It was supposed to sound deep... I'm high on flu medication right now.

Ever thought about taking your act online? Doing short comedy skits on YouTube or something?

I am truly, deeply sorry for your loss. I know all too well how it can be to play "how it could've gone" but end up going with family and home and I offer you my most sincere sympathies.

That has its own pitfalls. I don't know if I have the technology, to start. I've looked into it, but the field is glutted worse than normal stand-ups.

I find when I finally make a big decision like this it's very bittersweet.

I don't like having to give up something important, that may have or could have been a significant aspect of my life.

I do like how freeing it is once I've made the final decision, and see that there are more than enough other important things I want to do right behind it to fill the void.

Can't have the sweet without the bitter though.

Sorry Dave. I hope you find joy and keep making people laugh (even if it's just friends and coworkers). The world needs more laughter in it.

Wait! You and Dave DeLong were the same guy all along?!? So you burned your own hand with the lye?

I understand everything now.

All this time, Dave was possessed by the spirit of his past life as a pharaoh.
