So, I almost died today

#1

Frank

Frank

I was having lunch with a friend. It was a normal lunch. It was a good lunch. It was a fine lunch until I passed out cold right off the table.

Weeeoooo weeeeeooooo weeeeoooo weeeeooooo weeeeooooo

I wake up in the hospital. I had suffered a microstroke. Apparently an old job injury had an undetected blood clot that released a little bit of itself into my blood stream. Bam, instant microstroke. If the whole thing had been released, I would very much be dead. If I hadn't been out in public, I may very well be a vegatable right now. But here I am, 9 hours later, and I'm almost as good as new if not for a sore hole in my leg.

So, thank whatever maker smiles on people, because holy fuck do I feel good.

Holy shit, dude. Thank god you're okay... And that you feel ok.

Glad to hear you're ok! Did the doctors say anything about the possibility of this happening again at all?

#4

ThatNickGuy

ThatNickGuy

Holy shit, man. I hope the docs did everything they could to make sure it doesn't happen again.

That is scary as hell. Glad you're okay.

Moral of the story, don't ignore any damage you do to your legs. You could have created your future killer.

#7

LittleKagsin

LittleKagsin

Oh my goodness, I'm so glad you're okay now!! That's absolutely terrifying.

I hope there's no chance of this happening again.

#8

Frank

Frank

Not in that way anyway. I'm gonna get everything super checked out from now on.

Oh and I also learned that I have high blood pressure, likely from stress. NOOOOOOO!

#9

Zappit

Zappit

Good God! Glad you're okay, bud. Even happier you didn't suffer any major damage.

Hypertension, eh? It's not too bad. Some regular meds and reducing your salt will do wonders. Oh, and a quick tip from someone who knows - sugar can cause blood pressure spikes, so don't go nuts with that. I'd also recommend giving up caffine, as that forces the pressure up, too.

Holy crap. Glad you're back on your feet.

Yeah, I'd all but given up sugar already, but because of drinking less coke, I was drinking far more coffee, so my caffeine intake was booming.[DOUBLEPOST=1345689688][/DOUBLEPOST]
Holy crap. Glad you're back on your feet.
Yeah, all I got from the ordeal was a close call with the reaper and very, very slight limp for a day or two.

Watch that caffeine; it can cause quite a jump in blood pressure. I was never a big caffeine drinker, so it wasn't too hard an adjustment...Cherry coke, why hast thou forsaken me...but if you're drinking it to stay alert/awake, then it's best to adjust your sleeping habits accordingly.

You can't fuck around with high blood pressure. It overtaxed and harms other parts of your body. It could even be a symptom of something worse. I seemed healthy, but discovered I had some pretty high blood pressure, and that led to my diagnosis of acute kidney disease. My kidneys are half dead, and I might be right now too if I hadn't checked my pressure on a whim about a year ago today. Made a lot of progress since then, but if my pressure gets too high, my kidneys get walloped all over again.

I don't mean to make this sound like it's about me, but I've been dealing with this awhile, and if you need ANY advice about keeping that pressure down, I will help in any way I can - diet advice, making food flavorful without salt, decent low-salt grocery items, what foods can help even more...like bananas, Frank? They give you a major boost to your kidneys and help filter out excess salt. Just PM me if you need advice or even a sympathetic ear.

Thanks dude, I wasn't taking it all that seriously. I appreciate the candor.

Lend me $5. That way I won't let you die.

Seriously, though...

HOLY FUCK! Glad you are okay! Is there a chance it could happen again? Did they put you on blood thinner or anything or did they just drain the area?

#16

Hylian

Hylian

Fuck man that would be scary.

That being said I am glad to hear that you are alright. But just as a warning you better take care of yourself for I will have to hunt you down and beat you senseless.

#17

Ravenpoe

Ravenpoe

This happened because you decided at the last minute not to get on that plane that crashed.

I'm glad to hear you're alright, but try to stay away from any situation that could lead to a Rube Goldberg style of death.

Hey, the doctors missed the blod clot too.[DOUBLEPOST=1345699576][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nah, it was a leftover from an injury. I should be ok. They pretty thoroughly ultrasoundily scanned me.

Jay

Jay

Dude, that's terrible. I'm glad you're alright ow but damn that's scary as fuck.

You'd figure this type of thread would be job related.... Damn.

#20

bhamv3

bhamv3

Clearly Microsoft sneakily injured you in your leg, deliberately creating the blood clot and aiming to kill you slowly. They're trying to eliminate the greatest obstacle to Games for Windows Live taking over the world.

Seriously though dude, glad to hear you're ok now. It'd suck to have to create a "where the hell is Frank" thread.

Good Words
So...you're saying ''Come with me if you want to live''? :D

Good to hear you're okay Frankie, keep on keepin' on.

Good to hear you're going to be okay.
Like Jay, I expected a work-related story, possibly about the stupidity of the lower rungs of society and the bad luck of having to deal with them.

Stay healthy!

I'm happy to hear you didn't die today Frank.

Glad you're ok! I'm very curious though...

What did you have for lunch?

#25

Frank

Frank

Glad you're ok! I'm very curious though...

What did you have for lunch?
Lamb stew.

I barely got to eat any of it.

#26

Jay

Jay

Did you feel anything before it happened?

What the fuck happened while you were put.I WANT ALL THE GORY DETAILS.

#27

Frank

This lamb stew is gooooooo....wake up in hospital.

That's it man.

Frank! Keep away from the light!

Glad your ok.

Out of curiosity, how serious was the original injury that caused the clot?

#30

I can't really add anything, other than echoing the sentiments of everyone that's posted so far.

#31

Frank

Frank

Glad your ok.

Out of curiosity, how serious was the original injury that caused the clot?
Not all that serious. I sprained my ankle and knee in a gopher-like hole on some shitstains property in the middle of the night.

Damn dude... I'm very glad to hear you're alright.

#33

Officer_Charon

Officer_Charon

Damn, bro..... I am HUGELY relieved to hear that you're doing okay...

Now you're making me nervous about all the many myriad "little" injuries that I've sustained throughout the years.

Keep safe and carry on, brother!

#34

Hylian

Well if need be I can beat them senseless as well.

Are you sure you didn't just get blackout drunk?

Seriously though, TIAs are scary as all hell. Glad to know you're good.

I gotta cut down on the salt and stress and I'm on some light anti-anxiety meds and blood pressure regulators now.

Oh well.

How you doing Frank?

#39

Frank

Frank

Fine and dandy, wine and brandy.

I'd celebrate super huge, but apparently I need to live a little healthier than I do. Even spending as much time in the gym as I do, you can't eat garbage all the time and not have some internal problems.

#40

Jay

Be safe man, close calls like that aren't to be ignored.

Also, buy less Microsoft games.

Ha ha ha, for sure man.

Ugh, the medication I'm on right now is making me feel 100 times worse than I've ever felt. Everything is sluggish.

My appointment on the 31st can't come soon enough.

#44

Frank

Until then, I play video games on leave.

#45

Jay

What have you been playing?

#47

Playing video games and getting paid for it.

#51

Frank

Update: Things have been affecting me very oddly since the..."incident". I'm definitely not at 100%. Right now, I'm on indefinite leave until doctor clears me.

Not ideal.

Considered it, didn't because I saw Frank had ongoing trouble relating to the original post ;-)
