The Promise sets up the United Republic and deals with a few minor story elements the creators decided were canon before Korra started. It's halfway decent and really sets up why Aang is regarded as well as he is.

The Search resolves the thread about Zuko's mother (and that's not a spoiler, they announce that's the subject at the end of The Promise). I highly recommend this one, if only because it points out some legitimate issues with how Last Airbender ended and the state of the Fire Nation... though I don't like how it made another thread with Azula that hasn't been resolved yet.
