I know real original thread title - I'll try to come up with something better later. Well, if I can edit it later...which I think I can.

Anyway, I just wanted to start a cosplay thread to try and contribute something fun to the forums. My plans are to post my progress pictures/cosvlogs or just general cosplay chat videos here. I'll also be posting random cosplay pictures that I find.

I'm sure con pictures will also make into this thread.

And really, I want it to be a somewhat open forum if you want to talk to a cosplayer in general. If you have cosplay questions, I'll do my best to find an answer or point you in the right direction.

So, there you go. I hope to keep pretty up to date on this and I'll do my best to keep up the entertainment level. Thanks guys!

Oh goodness. Umm, the one I remember the most was this guy started bowing down to me and I just panicked, like, 'Oh, geez, what are you doing?'. And then he said 'What will the mother of nature have me do?' I was dressed as Poison Ivy at the time. Yeah, I seriously had no response to that. I just laughed nervously and was all, 'Oh, I'm good thanks.'

But the most obnoxious one was when dressed as Appa, so many guys would walk by and 'Hey Appa, yip yip :unibrow:

Fabrication as in props? My props are normally pretty easy to do...and that is my husbands' forte. For me, I try to push myself and my skills every year with costumes, so this batch I'm making now are quite difficult. I'm guessing in the long run it will be my 'secret-not-so-secret' costume. I'm making everything from scratch instead of buying pieces of it and Frankenstien-ing it together. And there are quite a few pieces to it.

But I can say that...next years' costumes (Yes, I totally plan that far ahead) will be much more difficult. Overall, I know Bayonetta will probably the most difficult thing I'll be making - and will involve some crazy techniques to create those guns from scratch.

figmentPez Maybe you're just being pre-emptive, but given your tag on Jay's post, it seems you think he was being creepy. I think he was just (jokingly) pointing out that Bayonetta is a sexualized character and that's what a lot of the marketing/hype around the game was... which is a long way from "Hey Kags, nice boobs, let's bang." I think your good intentions to stop creepiness can be a bit... overdefensive sometimes?

Jay, I really have no idea what you're sneaky ninja face implies. =^^= Granted, I don't think the guns will be the most difficult part - the seams on that body suit are just....GAH! Whoever designed her was just..insane. I'm definately not going to attempt to run around half-naked with her hair in demon form. Just, no. I'll be doing the bodysuit, which is risque enough, I think.

And for now, the only con I'm planning on is SDCC. That con is so big and I put so much money and effort in to it, I can't afford to go to others really. It also doesn't help that I live in the middle of nowhere in relation to conventions. There is a local con in Oct that I may pop in for a day, but really just Comic Con for me.

Is anyone here going to SDCC?

Also, thanks for the questions and at least showing a little interest in this thread guys! I was worried it would be a barren wasteland of just me posting. I appreciate it.

2. How do you approach your next project? What is the process you go through when choosing and making a new costume. What is it about a character or costume that inspires you to recreate it? How long does it typically take you to complete a new costume?
3. How are your pictures taken? Are they usually taken by your supportive significant other or by a professional photographer? Have you ever had a professional take your pictures? Has you ever allowed a cameko to snap pictures of you? Is your general shyness be an issue regarding this?

5. What is your favourite moment while cosplaying?

Sorry, I didn't upload the video yesterday. I was going to re-make it today, but don't have time. And if I re-did it would have to wait until next week, so I figured..may as well. Hopefully it's not to boring - I was kind of sleepy by the time I finally got it right. I say got it right because I do not have any video editing software at the moment, so I have to do everything in one long shot...which...for me is really difficult. =^^= So, I'll work on getting some software to spice up the videos a little bit.

after finally watching the new video all I can think is fluttershy, haha....

I do have a kind of taboo question, I will just put it out and if its not ok, just say so and I will retract it.

the question is, as a female cosplayer do you ever feel like you are being objectified? what I am saying is I have heard other female cosplayers complain that they feel that when they wear "sexy" cosplay they are treated as piece of meat and feel like they are ogled by others. I hear it from my female friends who cosplay as well that they wont cosplay certain characters because they don't want to be ogled and drooled over by male con-goers.

No, no, it's totally fine. As a whole, yes, I think female cosplayers are objectified. And girls who wear 'sexy' cosplay even more so. But me personally, not often. I mean, the only times I've felt even remotely objectified was when I got cat-called wearing Appa. (Which is so messed up...) It's a hard question because there are so many factors. I've never seen any one oogle me, but Nate says it happens. Girls who wear 'sexy' cosplay are oogled almost constantly and are treated differently, which I know is directly re-lated to the costume they are wearing. I've seen it happen on multiple occasions. Which isn't the most fun I can imagine having, I mean, most women cosplay the characters that they love. They are not cosplaying, in general, for anyone but themselves. So, to be put down with deragatory comments, "I'd tap that", is really disheartening. Especially when cosplayers put so much work, heart and soul into what they create. I, for one, have never been deterred of cosplaying a character because of their outfit. I know I'm asking for trouble in planning to cosplay Bayonetta. I know I'm going to examined and comments will be made about my body. Both, well possibly, good comments and bad ones. I know that I'm going to have to steel myself against hurtful things. Which is sad. Any craftmanship I put into this outfit will be completely looked over for what I look like in it. And I know cosplay is a visual medium so it's not terrible to say something about how someone looks in a costume, but it's often the only thing people will comment on.

Sorry, I don't know if I'm making much sense. It's an interesting subject that could go on and be discussed for quite a while. =^^= If there is anything you want me to be more specific about, ask away. I know I ramble abit, so I'm sorry, I'll try to keep on track.

I'll keep thinking about this and if I can think of any better way to say what I'm thinking.

It can be tough to separate the two. For example, last year at MisCon, a woman named Cat Mathis was wearing a chainmaille bikini out of soda-tab maille. And she looked pretty darn good. But I also appreciated how tough the costume was to make (having recently made the scale bikini for Jenny Poussin) and so that's what I talked to her about. She seemed to appreciate it, though she hadn't made the costume herself.

I guess my point is, you can appreciate an attractive woman wearing a sexy outfit without being a creep, or going too far the other way.

Edit: Ah, my memory had failed me. The top was regular rings, the skirt was soda-tab. Makes sense, tabs are sharpish for up top.

I think it's pretty easy to stay in the safe zone. Most girls do enjoy being complimented on their costumes, and if they look nice in it, just like Null said. If you don't use any crude language or remarks about any cosplayer, I don't think you will offend anyone.

So...since this thread is for my own purposes....

I'm so excited, my cosfamily has moved back here!! Which means, I now have a photographer. We already have a photoshoot planned for this weekend - we'll be shooting my femLink. And we've talked about a couple of other photoshoots as well.

Just a couple of quick progress shots. Got my Harley shorts and thigh-highs in. YAY! Just have to add the red stripes to the shorts. And...am debating making the thigh-highs more gray, since they are a little to white/cream for me.

Anyway, yay.

Do you mean like in a group? Or with like a competition team? I've done group cosplay before lots of times - most of it was from my early days so there aren't a whole lot of photos. I've done one competiton with a group and it was completely terrifying.

No, I haven't posted a picture of me as Appa, since I just have con pictures of it. Not a nice photoshoot, of it.

It's just styrafoam, sanded with epoxy and resin over the top to try and smooth it out. We ran out of time to make it really pretty...but they worked wonderfully.

Nate ran out of masking tape (I was to busy pouting to tape these off to make them straight...), but I'll probably be able to get a lot more done on this tomorrow. Pinstripes are a pain.

Harley wig stubbed and ready for the foam batting to be sewn on.

Shorts are all done, dyed and added the lace to them tonight. If I have the money I would like to add some flower/vine appliques to the sides. But we'll see. They are completed as of right now though.

Hard at work today! And I finished ordering everything that needs to be ordered. It feels so nice.

Finished pinstripes! I'm SO excited with how these came out. Now just to finish up with the black fabric..

Half of a pigtail nearly done for my Harley wig. It probably looks janky now, but I promise, it will be awesome.

I have some fun things arriving on Monday, so I'll probably update with more pictures then. I hope it's not...to much for you guys. You're all so awesome to humor me.

Oh, and I did make some spandex gauntlets today, but no pictures, they're not that exciting. I'll do pictures when they're painted.

I was going to make this awesome steampunk gun for Harley, but I've run out of time and funds for that.

I'm saddened.

Princesses are dropping left and right - our group is losing girls! Gah! (I would put this in the 'Whine like a Baby' thread, but..I generally feel bad talking about cosplay on the boards when there's a specific place for cosplay...Yeah.)
So, first off, our Jane was unable to get a ticket. And our Kida just posted that...her costume exploded. 5 months of electrical work down the drain. It makes me soo sad...waaaa! *wibble*

Anyway, no picture update tonight, but I did work on cosplay today. The bustle is nearly completed and looks pretty good. My favorite part is how well the pinstripes came out and how well they look together. Awesome.

Also, since my cosfam has moved back home, my cos-sister and I are thinking of making vlogs together! Eep, excited!

Also, also, Ivy/Robin shoot will probably happen this weekend! WEE!

I started sewing in...2010. Yeah, yeah, cause thats' when I made my Link costume. I learn by trial and error though, you should take a couple of classes! Once you learn the basics, you can easily get by and learn more techniques as you go. Like, I just learned how to do a blind-hem stitch (which is awesome by the way), and I'll keep learning as I go.

I have to finish styling my Harley wig - it's so close to being done.
I need to add/sew my cape for Alice, add the red ties to the sleeves so they stop falling down.
And then I need to finish painting the applique stuff on Pascal, and fix a eyelet that broke through the fabric.

Aw, thanks! They're not to bad...The green will most probably give me a headache - it is as heavy as it looks. But Harley isn't to bad, I didn't a pretty good job of faking a lot of fiber with foam.

seeing your test run i would have graded it a solid B+ effort, seeing you out and about that costume went right past A and slammed into S grade.

I ADORE her character! Sure, she definately sexualized, but what I'm okay with is that she has the confidence to not be afraid of it and the sass to back it up. Which is why I'm okay cosplaying her - if I get comments made at me, fitting with her character, I think I could banter back and win.

Like current gen stuff, yeah?

My favorite game/series of all time is God of War. But some other favorites are: Jak and Daxter, Sly Cooper, Uncharted, Bayonetta, Tomb Raider (I, Legend, Anniversary and Underworld), Ico/Shadow of the Colossus, LittleBigPlanet, Darksiders, Dragonage, Prince of Persia. And I love the crap out of dancing games; Just Dance, Dance Central.

Then, there are the games that I like, but will never play myself: Gears of War, Bioshock, Left for Dead and Assassin's Creed (I might play Assassin's Creed III though, looks AWESOME!).

Also, I just bought Rayman Origins yesterday and Nate and I are loving it!
