Kags' Cosplay Thread

Aww, haha, thats one of the best compliments ever! Thank you Bones. =^^=

No, no, it's totally fine. As a whole, yes, I think female cosplayers are objectified. And girls who wear 'sexy' cosplay even more so. But me personally, not often. I mean, the only times I've felt even remotely objectified was when I got cat-called wearing Appa. (Which is so messed up...) It's a hard question because there are so many factors. I've never seen any one oogle me, but Nate says it happens. Girls who wear 'sexy' cosplay are oogled almost constantly and are treated differently, which I know is directly re-lated to the costume they are wearing. I've seen it happen on multiple occasions. Which isn't the most fun I can imagine having, I mean, most women cosplay the characters that they love. They are not cosplaying, in general, for anyone but themselves. So, to be put down with deragatory comments, "I'd tap that", is really disheartening. Especially when cosplayers put so much work, heart and soul into what they create. I, for one, have never been deterred of cosplaying a character because of their outfit. I know I'm asking for trouble in planning to cosplay Bayonetta. I know I'm going to examined and comments will be made about my body. Both, well possibly, good comments and bad ones. I know that I'm going to have to steel myself against hurtful things. Which is sad. Any craftmanship I put into this outfit will be completely looked over for what I look like in it. And I know cosplay is a visual medium so it's not terrible to say something about how someone looks in a costume, but it's often the only thing people will comment on.

Sorry, I don't know if I'm making much sense. It's an interesting subject that could go on and be discussed for quite a while. =^^= If there is anything you want me to be more specific about, ask away. I know I ramble abit, so I'm sorry, I'll try to keep on track.

I'll keep thinking about this and if I can think of any better way to say what I'm thinking.

It can be tough to separate the two. For example, last year at MisCon, a woman named Cat Mathis was wearing a chainmaille bikini out of soda-tab maille. And she looked pretty darn good. But I also appreciated how tough the costume was to make (having recently made the scale bikini for Jenny Poussin) and so that's what I talked to her about. She seemed to appreciate it, though she hadn't made the costume herself.

I guess my point is, you can appreciate an attractive woman wearing a sexy outfit without being a creep, or going too far the other way.

Exactly Null. (Heh, sounds like a Red Sonja cosplayer. =^^=).
It was an interesting costume. Think she was wearing pistols... actually, lemme find a picture.

Edit: Ah, my memory had failed me. The top was regular rings, the skirt was soda-tab. Makes sense, tabs are sharpish for up top.

Second Edit: Costume made by Chad Davis.

thats pretty cool null! I would complement her on it too, its a neat outfit, she is cute too :D

to Kags, I am glad that you were able to answer the question, as a male "otaku" I constantly worry what I say and do will offend female fans when I talk to them about things like cosplay. I don't want to be that guy that everyone is thinking is some huge weirdo pervert! I feel even weirder because you have proven time and time again that my fears are unfounded, but I am so fearful of public reproachment for "unbecoming" behavior that I still ask for permission and state that my intentions and actions are not malevolent.

what can i say, I am a wild and crazy guy!:wololo:

Weirdo pervert: "Wow, that costume really accents your tits, may I lick them?"

Normal nerdy guy: "Wow, that's a great costume," or "You look great, how long did it take you to put that together?"

Bit of room betwixt them, Bones. Have no fear.

Aww, Bones, don't you worry. *hugs*

I think it's pretty easy to stay in the safe zone. Most girls do enjoy being complimented on their costumes, and if they look nice in it, just like Null said. If you don't use any crude language or remarks about any cosplayer, I don't think you will offend anyone.

Also, that soda can tab skirt is AWESOME!! =^^=

I dunno. Earlier in this thread, L-Kagz mentioned being confused by the kind of dude who would bow down before her, which to me, seems pretty obnoxious too.

Also my first thought looking at that ringmail picture is "great pose" so maybe I'm not from column A or B. :p

In excitment for the upcoming Avengers movie. I thought having an Avengers' cosplay day would be fun.

THOR:

IRON MAN:

I know this particular cosplayer has been posted in Pez's thread before..but, he's just so spot on!

CAPTAIN AMERICA:

(With authentic battle damage!!)

(Sorry, I'm horrible and do not know the male cosplayer, but USO Girls: Yaya Han, Riddle and Scruffy Rebel)

(Haaa, I'm hilarious. =^^=)

THE HULK:

BLACK WIDOW:

(Is it wrong to post pictures of my friends?...)

(Tally: One of my favorite Black Widow cosplayers ever!)

Hawkeye, Loki and Nick Fury to come later today. =^^=

EDIT: Also, yes, Gusto, that guy was weird. I think it's all about maintaining a level of comfortable personal space. It's fine to go up and talk to cosplayers - we generally love to talk and meet new people. But there is that line of comfortability that..shouldn't quite be crossed. Heh.

If your friends are excellent cosplayers, than go ahead, post them. Also, this is your thread, you da boss here!

Ah, no thank you for sending me the questions so I can! :) And a general thanks to everyone for generally being supportive of me doing videos.

So...since this thread is for my own purposes....

I'm so excited, my cosfamily has moved back here!! Which means, I now have a photographer. We already have a photoshoot planned for this weekend - we'll be shooting my femLink. And we've talked about a couple of other photoshoots as well.

So, expect more cosplay pictures from me in the coming months. =^^= Eee, excite!

In the meanwhile, you should do YouTube Cosplay Rage Faces, like 3 second clips.

I can prepare ze list!

You backed up Adam?

But yeah, stuff like that. I like the one she made for me, my fav was her drinking the wine a la NPH.

Just a couple of quick progress shots. Got my Harley shorts and thigh-highs in. YAY! Just have to add the red stripes to the shorts. And...am debating making the thigh-highs more gray, since they are a little to white/cream for me.

Anyway, yay.

(Mmm, goldfish!)

(Also, thats not the corset I'm using for Harley, it's just one I had on hand and wanted to see what the shorts would like like with one on.)

Looking good Kags, I think I'll quote myself "You've got some nice stems there Ivy."

Something BLUE is taking approximately 12% of the Kags away from the viewers. Damn you BLUE! Damn you straight to BLU-HELL
