It would work if Mr. Miyagi fought with a ladder...

Jackie Chan is set to play Mr. Miyagi in the new Karate Kid movie; not much else to say there. Better yet - :blue: - Jaden Smith, son of Will Smith, is playing the titular kid.

Please, Hollywood - do a new movie - no more remakes.

On the one hand, I can see this casting working out pretty well.

On the other hand,

No. Certain films could be good if remade. The Last Starfighter could be a good one for a remake, maybe Midnight Madness. But this?

^ I always love it when a movie looks so bad on the page, that the studio can not find a star to play the lead role. Then you end up with a bit player getting top billing.

A ladder, bucket, mop, plates, screen door...... :)

It will be painful to learn Jack-Fu

I dunno, I can only imagine what kind of training would be involved in learning kung-fu by doing housework Jackie-chain style.

The kid will never survive :)

Jackie Chan : "To mop this floor, you must do it while balancing on this ladder and spin a plate on your head."
Jackie Chan : "Paint this wall using only a mop while on roller skates!"

not to nitpick, and i am a fan of jackie's but the mr. miyaga character was japanese.. he was born in okinawa, he knew/taught karate.

48 Hours, Lethal Weapon, Beverly Hills Cop, and Training Day spring to mind, along with nearly every other one in history.

Even Tango and Cash was better than Rush Hour. Oh, and I agree with Charlie's list... except I wouldn't necessarily classify Training Day as a "buddy cop" film.

Please god let Michael Bay direct. Only he could reboot this franchise. Critics may not like his movie but money sure does. He breaks box office records like Jackie Chan breaks bones.

*hits him over the head with a newspaper and rubs his nose into the carpet* NO! NO! We DO NOT suggest Michael Bay can actually help a franchise! BAD STEVE! BAD!

Well, he kinda has a point. Michael Bay films do tend to make their money back and how.

*cowers in preparation for the inevitable hit.*

The last time this was brought up, people reacted like this. Then it was mentioned (as in the article) that it would be called "Kung-Fu Kid" and everyone eased off. It's not exactly a remake, after all...

I love Tango and Cash. It is kinda funny to see Silvester Stallone as a business man. I love it.

edit: the movie was made in 1989. A lot of movies are kinda "corny" during that time.

Silvester Stallone has a lot more range than most people give him credit for. I remember seeing him do some comedy in Spy Kids 3 and asking myself "Why didn't this guy try to do funny family movies like Arnold and Vinn Diesel? HE'S ACTUALLY GOOD AT IT!"

Oscar is still one of my favorite movies. He's absolutely hilarious in it.

Anyways :) before we derail this. I got a question.

I hardly see Jackie Chan in any serious roles (in terms of recent films that are release in the states) I am not sure about any Hong Kong films. I just recently learn (above post) about the porn one, but I can't see him being serious. Even in his book "I am Jackie Chan" states that he wanted to be comedic type actor which he is very good with martial arts (Kung Fu mainly)

I wonder if the director will allow Jackie Chan do Jackie Chan stuff in this new version of "Karate/Kung Fu Kid" (whatever it is called) In the original, Mr. Miyagi does really have many "action" parts.
