God damn bandwidth stealing MFers.

Look, here's the thing.

If you need to check your email, do some banking, maybe catch up on the latest video game news? I got no problem with that. Please, use my internets. With my heartfelt love for you as a human being.

When you start downloading a shit load of torrents and make my roommate and I suffer through endless "Page could not be found" bullshits before finally connecting to the simple websites we surf on a daily basis? Bitch gonna die. Bitch is gonna die.

So now I ask you, Halforum community, what should I do to take this motherfucker down and down hard? I have a feeling I know who it is. I've seem him sitting on his porch with his laptop, that smug look on his face as he downloads all the torrents and CP for free without ever having to worry about his ip being traced. I see him, and I just think to myself: A crowbar to the teeth is too good for him.

I'm envisioning a pair of sawhorses. Him bent over them with his arms pulled high over his head, unable to move. His teeth slowly being extracted as weights from the new piercings through his nipples tear through his flesh. Behind him, a big red butt plug. Larger than my thigh. Slowly penetrating him so he feels every rip and every tear. While he's doing this, I'm playing pandora from my newly-freed bandwidth.

(In this picture the Big Red Butt Plug is portrayed by a Pterodactyl as I thought the butt plug would be a bit much)

But then again maybe I'm just over-reacting. Maybe he accidentally connected to the router and just hit "Save settings." Who knows. I certainly wouldn't want to anally invade someone that just accidentally clicked the wrong button. Unless they were a mac user.

God damn macs.

aside from legal issues which I wonder how far you would get with, my only recommendation would be to lock down your wireless so he can't have access. If you have the patience and the knowhow, check out what he's doing (can't explain how to here) and then wait for him do be doing something big and then LOCK IT DOWN right in the middle of it. It's not much, but it's something.

It WAS passworded. With WEP-PSK encription.

ONLY THERE WAS A WIRELESS SWITCH SOMEWHERE IN THE HOUSE LEFT OPEN (But it was purely on accident).

What we did was remove the SSID broadcast, change the admin password and see if he can get through that. If he can then we'll move on to MAC filtering. I'm not looking for how to fix it, I WANT REVENGE. I'm thinking about emptying the "Pet walk" containers in our complex into his open car window.

Reroute all image requests for non-authorized MACs to www.goatse.cx.

(which I was not aware of but has been taken down! CURSES! New URL is http://www.goatse.fr/)

Aw, dang. I'm not good at revenge. The worst I've ever done is a strongly-worded letter. :\

That poo idea sounds kind of funny, though.... not that I'm encouraging it. But I might have just chuckled.

Your congeniality even in the face of adverse conditions is what makes you so endearing. :D

I thought this, and doing a DDoS. Both would require a firmware update and, right now, we have a wireless cable modem/router provided to us by time warner that is not linux compatible.

Check to see if he's secured his laptop appropriately and copy a bunch of child porn over to his laptop shared drive. Then call the cops.

Okay. I don't actually know that's what he was doing. I'm just angry.

But Ross checked and nothing was shared on his computer. I was so outraged that I didn't bother to look myself

Next time you see him outside looking smug, grab a laptop from where he's visible and broadcast a network message saying "I'm WATCHING YOU ASSHOLE" and see if he starts looking around.

If he does, run out and yell at him saying "BUSTED". If not, you may have the wrong guy.

And then you switched his regular coffee with Folgers crystals. I'm more interested to see if he notices that.

Check out Defcon. It's a hacker culture conference.

You should be able to look around and find easy ways to mess with his connection without affecting yours.

Popular simple methods reverse images and text on any webpage he tries to access. Other methods replace the webpage with other webpages, or your own creation.

Then, of course, you can start capturing his passwords, or monitoring his activities.

But if it were me, I'd get a new modem and use WPA2. It's just not worth the time trying to mess with him when you don't have any decent way to secure your network.

If you can't get a new modem, then use MAC filtering, remove the DHCP server and setup static IP, etc. Limit the number of IPs that can access it to those assigned, change the WEP password frequently, etc. He'll eventually get tired of dealing with it.

I love going to DEFcon.

I mentioned pretty much everything you mentioned, but we stuck to the easy "No SSID and router password" thing to see if that will work first.

No one's getting on our network now unless they have serious skillz and/or programs.

You might try blocking the ports that the torrents download on. He'd still be on your wireless but he'd be forced to play nice.

#21

Well they are blocked unless it's PF'd.

How do you turn it off the wifi? Can you do it with a button? If so, next time he is in the porch, you could turn it off and see his reaction.

Pretty much. Ross had a new computer show up and he was setting it up. I think it accidental got reset that way.

Shannow

ah, so you have both a router and a switch there at home.

The hurting them, etc. is a waste. Change the pass on the network, close the switch down, and be done with it. he will be pissed he cannot get a free ride anymore, and the problem is solved. Win win.

Yes, that is what you are suppose to be done eventually, but you could play with the guy a bit.

What had happened is I converted my router into a switch since the new modem TWC gave us had a built-in wifi router. However, there's a firmware issue with my router that caused some of the settings to default, which essentially reactivated the wireless broadcast with no password, and that's how they were getting on. Now the wireless is deactivated and the SSID is set to hidden so hopefully that's the last of that.

#32

figmentPez

figmentPez

Someone correct me if I've heard wrong, but I was told that turning off SSID broadcast is pointless, and that MAC address filtering is trivial to circumvent if a hacker knows what they're doing.
