Eating Sour Cream & Onion Flavoured Crickets

Have you guys ever eaten bugs before? I haven't. Neither has my girlfriend. By a candy store in downtown Halifax (The Freak Lunchbox) sells candied insects. So of course, in the name of Dill research and trying new things, I bought a packet of sour cream & onion flavoured crickets.

Naturally, because I knew hilarity would ensue (especially from Alix), we took turns filming each other trying it.

Once again, I apologize for the vertical video syndrome.

I haven't eaten bugs on purpose. I've swallowed a few while on the back of a motorcycle after they've gone in my nose. They were not pleasant. But @AussieT has had crickets and ants. He agrees with you, Nick. They aren't bad.

I had fried crickets once at an Asian fusion restaurant. It was certainly interesting, but basically it doesn't have any particular taste on its own, so it's not something I would order regularly.

Klondike Days/Edmonton Expo here always has a variety of fucked up bug foods. They're crunchy and taste like whatever flavourings on them.

Actually they are some of the nicest people in the world to talk too. Sad that they raised prices this year, nice of them to service me on a Saturday.

I loved the episode of Dirty Jobs where Mike Rowe was doing septic tank work, and the guy showing him the job was a former psychologist. He said he quit psychiatry, and when into the septic tank business, because he was "tired of dealing with other people's shit".

Eh. Most bugs really do mostly have the taste of whatever flavoring's on them; some have pretty nice texture (mostly crickets so far), some more pea- or lentil-like meely texture (grasshoppers, mealworms, maggots, and some other crap I didn't particularly like).
It's the future, yo. But it's kinda dry and tasteless without good seasoning.
