So I'm going back to school starting next week to become a paralegal. Still not sure if this is a good idea or if I'm freakin' insane.

Hey if it is insane, you'll know how to file the proper paperwork to have yourself committed. So...win win.

Just had final job interview with a company that I really want to work for. They said they'll let me know this week. See you in the rant thread or the epic win thread...

I need a mental health day away from everyone and everything. I keep getting headaches. It's all stress because it's in my neck. My therapist tells me to exercise, but how can I do that plus read 8 chapters, write two papers (including one with a hypothetical experiment that I am completely lost on), write an essay, do my section of this ongoing group project, clean my house before my parents come, take care of my kids, run errands, be a little social, and still have time to eat, sleep, and breathe.

I'm about to turn in my cape.

A single day away isn't the resolution to that issue, I think that's obvious :(

I have been posting here since the Thanksgiving explosion. I have started less threads in that time than Naiwen has in her month. I'm not really making any major points. I just find that amusing.

We got TI81s in about 1991 or so and I immediately programmed a batman game complete with splash screen and collision detection (batman was a dot during play). I thought I was awesome until I found out about the internet and read about what people had done with the 85.

When I went to my university entrance interview in the UK, I showed them Poker on my TI-83 and claimed I'd created it. They accepted me into their computer systems engineering program.

In hindsight, neither of us had made a good decision.

Man, in the past several years, technology has advanced so much. High end computer components that were once thousands of dollars can be bought for a mere fraction of that now, with technology getting more and more powerful and efficient.

SO WHY THE FUCK DOES A TI-83 STILL COST A HUNDRED FUCKING DOLLARS? It hasn't changed price in a decade or more.

So you mean that it is half the price it was a decade ago.

Because they are a college necessity and they've cornered the market... and because Texas makes huge fucking orders for them. It's the same thing with school books: Texas has the largest school districts in the country, so whatever they buy goes down in price because the company making them can afford to discount the books.

Pretty sure you can get an app for a tablet or phone that would do the same thing as a graphing calculator...

It's interesting when someone you know who lords her intelligence over people turns out to be kind of dumb. Turns out there's more to it than just reading a lot. No point in having a great vocabulary if your ideas are crap.

I'm laughing at myself, because I've let someone intimidate me for years, and there was no point!

Never be intimidated by someone's intelligence, even if they really are 'more intelligent' than you. (What qualifies as 'intelligence' and one quantifies it is beyond the scope of what I mean to say here.)

Do not be uncomfortable with what you know, as long you know that you know it. I realise that reads like a tautology, but it isn't: many people think they know something, but don't realise the limitations of their knowledge on the subject.

Never feel ashamed for not knowing something, unless you previously dishonestly pretended to know it - in that case, use that sense of shame to go and learn something about it. If you don't know something, and you simply do not need or want to know, then leave it be, find the experts when you need them. Otherwise, go, and learn about it.

And anyone, anywhere, who holds their intelligence above other people, is an asshole, for whatever they know, they don't know how to love intelligence for its sake, nor how to share it.

Almost every professor I know has a rule against using internet capable devices during tests... so might be good for homework, not so good for testing.
Yeah... if you bring a calculator to a test center, they will take the calculator and reset the contents. That's how they know you aren't using it to cheat. Can you imagine THE OUTRAGE that would happen if they did the same to your cellphone?

Really, that's the entire reason the button exists... so colleges can let you use the calculator but be sure you aren't cheating with it. It's also the only reason you're allowed to use anything beyond a plain scientific calculator.
