The most terrifying experience I've had as an educator so far

I just talked a student off the metaphorical ledge. It was an tense, emotional phone call. I think I got her to a place where she was less distraught and willing to come in and see me in person tomorrow. I'm not sure how well I'm going to sleep to night. Holy crap. I'm still shaking.

You did good.

I just heard the patrol car we sent out took her to the hospital. It sounds like she will be in some good care for a little while.

Good on you for doing the right thing, and talking her down. It's never easy, and it sounds like you made it work out just fine. Good job.

Good job man. Have a few beers and sleep well tonight.

I'm glad you were able to help her. I hope that her situation improves and that you sleep okay tonight. It's scary talking people off of the edge. Rest easy knowing you probably did more than some people could/would.

I'm glad that she respected you enough to talk to you, because if not you, then who would she have turned to, you may have been the only person she felt she could talk to and if you weren't there... Be proud my friend.

You did great, Mind. Many people never realize that teachers do wind up playing the role of councilor for some kids who feel they've got no one else to talk to. I've never had a case like that, but I've had a few who confided in me.

You're one of the good ones, bud. That school is dang lucky to have you.

It sounds like you did exactly the right thing. You were there when she needed someone to talk her down, and thanks to you, she has the possibility to get the help she needs. Regardless of what happens from this point on, you gave her the best opportunity to get help.

To put it in poker terms, you put your chips in with the best hand you could. From now it's the luck of the draw.

Good job, MD. I hope everything turns out well for the student you helped. Have some spiked tea and hug your wife.

Speaking as someone who has spent time in hospitals due to depression, you did an amazing thing for here, MD.

I truly hope so. The crazy thing is all the doubt I am left with as the adrenaline wears off. I think it is irrational doubt, though (like irrational fear) filling an emotional void. I can't imagine what I would do differently, since it seems logically like the best possible outcome. I just feel terrible for the poor girl. I hope the professionals can help her.
