Oakland Raiders website has a message up stating that Al Davis, the owner of the Raiders, has passed away at 82.

Honestly, I thought the man was never going to die, that he might have some strange rejuvenation chamber that he used each off season, immediately after the draft.

He was the coolest owner in the NFL. Well, he was 20+ years ago. Too bad he wrecked the team these past 10 years.

One of the most important people in NFL history. Without him the AFL merger doesn't happen.

Great guy. He was a visionary and talented owner. He led a fabled franchise to some of its happiest years and made people respect the Raiders.

Then he pissed it away in his old age, reducing the team and franchise to a laughing stock.

So, while he may be missed by some, ultimately this is an improvement for the Raiders. I'm sorry to say it, but it's true.
