Your Favourite Movie for Each Year Since You Were Born

We do pick up again in 2004:

2004 – The Pasion of the Christ (The Day After Tomorrow, The Butterfly Effect)
2005 – Walk The Line (Hitch, Mr. and Mrs. Smith, Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy)
2006 – Cars
2007 – The Simpsons Movie
2008 – Wall-E (Hancock)
2009 – The Fast & The Furious

And then, things start to drop off. I've seen maybe three movies from the last seven years, mostly because of my life situation. So, I have a list of "want to see" movies that I have not, as of yet, seen:

2010 – (Despicable Me)
2011 – (Moneyball)
2012 – (Skyfall, Brave)

There then came three years where I saw movies - and two of them were actually in a theater!

2013 – Frozen (Gravity)
2014 – The LEGO Movie (Big Hero 6, Noah)
2015 – The Force Awakens (Inside Out, The Martian, Minions)

I haven't seen much since then, so here's the "wanna watch" list again:

2016 – (Sully, Star Trek Beyond, Ghostbusters 2016, Zootopia, Rogue One)
2017 – (LEGO Batman Movie, The Last Jedi, Wonder Woman, Cars 3)[DOUBLEPOST=1490442005,1490441861][/DOUBLEPOST]
I like your attitude. Fuck the rules, list every movie :p
Part of it is just trying to think, "Which of these is really my favorite?" And in some cases, it's pretty difficult.

Okay, let's see now:
1980- Empire Strikes Back (this one was harder to choose than I thought it was going to be)
1981-History of the World Part 1
1982-The Last Unicorn
1983- Jedi or Vacation...I can't decide!
1984-Ghostbusters (another close year)
1985-The Breakfast Club
1986-Pretty In Pink (also close)
1987-The Princess Bride
1988-Coming to America or Bull Durham
1989-The Little Mermaid
1990-Cry Baby
1991-The Commitments
1992- Either Army of Darkness or A League of Their Own

(I'm having less trouble in the 90's than in the 80's)

1993-Jurassic Park

(Shit, spoke too soon)

1994-Clerks
1995-Clueless
1996-Trainspotting
1997-Chasing Amy
1998-Mulan
1999-Dogma or 10 Things I Hate About You
2000-X-Men
2001-Moulin Rouge!, but another tough year
2002-Spider-Man or Lilo & Stitch
2003-Argghh- another tough year! Kill Bill, Vol. 1
2004-Ummmm... *throws dart* The Incredibles
2005-Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire
2006- Cars (this year was seriously "meh")
2007- Hot Fuzz or Hairspray
2008-Iron Man
2009-Up
2010- How to Train Your Dragon or Scott Pilgrim
2011-Captain America
2012- The Avengers or Wreck-It Ralph
2013-Frozen (a lot of franchises were "blah" this year)
2014-Guardians of the Galaxy
2015-Star Wars: The Force Awakens
2016-Rogue One
2017-??? (I've only seen Lego Batman and Logan, both were good)

This is gonna expose how few movies I've seen...

1992 - Waynes World
1993 - Groundhog Day
1994 - Pulp Fiction
1995 - Toy Story
1996 - Happy Gilmore
1997 - Batman and Robin (Assuming you cant count the Star Wars special editions despite those being my first exposure to Star Wars)
1998 - The Truman Show
1999 - South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut
2000 - The Emperor's New Groove
2001 - Zoolander
2002 - Spider-Man
2003 - Return of the King
2004 - Anchorman (very tough year with Mean Girls and Shaun of the Dead)
2005 - Lord of War
2006 - Thank you for Smoking
2007 - Hot Fuzz (got to it and stopped scrolling through the year)
2008 - Iron Man
2009 - Inglourious Basterds
2010 - Hot Tub Time Machine
2011 - Bridesmaids (probably the worst year for me)
2012 - Django Unchained
2013 - Anchorman 2
2014 - The Lego Movie
2015 - Mad Max Fury Road
2016 - Arrival
2017 - Logan (so far)

Only saw two movies from 97, huh? :p
It was that or Austin Powers, but I happened to see Batman and Robin when it was on tv a year or two ago and I honestly don't get the hatred. If you don't like campy 1966 style Batman I get it, but I thought it was really funny.

Well, yes, it totally harkened back to campy 60's Batman - but it wasn't supposed to be that! It was supposed to carry on from Burton's Batman, more noirish with subtle camp. And because it swung the pendulum right back to near full on campy when that pendulum swung back the other way we got that grimdark Batman Begins. Which might have been fine, but it it lead to grimdark Joker and the pendulum has been stuck over there for all the DC movies.

The batnipplies are to blame!

I'd like to preface this by reiterating that I do, in fact, have bad taste in movies.

1981: Raiders of the Lost Ark
1982: Annie
1983: Krull
1984: Top Secret!
1985: The Goonies
1986: Aliens

1988: Who Framed Roger Rabbit
1989: The Little Mermaid

1991: Tie between Beauty and the Beast and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves
1992: Aladdin
1993: Hot Shots, Part Deux
1994: D2: The Mighty Ducks (notably, this movie beats out the likes of the Lion King, Forrest Gump, Shawshank Redemption, etc)

1996: The Rock
1997: The Full Monty
1998: Rush Hour
1999: The Matrix
2000: Hollow Man

2009: Inglourious Basterds
2010: Despicable Me
2011: Captain America
2012: Avengers
2013: Let it Gooooooooooooo....
2014: Winter Soldier
2015: The Martian
2016: Civil War
2017 so far: Kong: Skull Island

I'm just gonna go picking movies from @jwhouk's list. Thanks for doing the legwork, friend!

1976 – I was only alive a month of this year, so I feel justified leaving it blank for not finding a movie from this I liked.
1977 – Star Wars
1978 – Superman
1979 – The Black Hole - I've only ever seen it once long ago but it has stuck in my mind
1980 – The Empire Strikes Back
1981 – Raiders of the Lost Ark Excalibur
1982 – Star Trek II The Wrath of Khan
1983 – War Games
1984 – Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom. Or maybe nothing.
1985 – The Breakfast Club
1986 – Ferris Bueller's Day Off
1987 – RoboCop (It sucks that the Princess Bride can't make the list)
1988 – Die Hard
1989 – Field of Dreams (Sorry Bill & Ted)
1990 – Total Recall
1991 – Terminator 2 (Sorry Bill & Ted)
1992 – Death Becomes Her
1993 – Demolition Man The Nightmare Before Christmas
1994 – The Ref (not even the first Speed made the list)
1995 – While You Were Sleeping (oh, the Net came out the same year :( )
1996 – Crash (Cronenberg's, the one without Sandra Bullock)
1997 – Starship Troopers
1998 – Out of Sight
1999 – eXistenZ
2000 – High Fidelity (Miss Congeniality as runner up! )
2001 – Amelie (But I also want to say Legally Blonde)
2002 – Spiderman (my favorite superhero movie, all because of Sam Raimi)

And that seems like a good time to end the list because I rather stopped regularly watching movies around this time[DOUBLEPOST=1490464555,1490464210][/DOUBLEPOST]
Two of my favorites are While You Were Sleeping and Miss Congeniality.
Those are 2 of my favorites, too. It turns out that The Net's the only other that would immediately be nominated for a spot on my list. And really, I only chose High Fidelity over Miss Congeniality because I loved the book - and so I could make the lame runner-up joke.

Even Miss Congeniality and Love Potion #9?

See my list.

And I just realized that Demolition Man shouldn't be on there, either, so the only Sandra Bullock movie that actually makes the list is While You Were Sleeping.

(Made from real gorilla chest)

1986- Labyrinth or Top Gun
1987-The Running Man
1988-Die Hard
1989-Last Crusade
1990- I know I should say Goodfellas but...Tremors
1991- silence of the lambs
1992- reservoir dogs

1994- Shawshank redemption
1995- Desperado? Or Die hard III: die hardest

1997- 5th Element
1998- I guess saving Private Ryan. Shout out to 1998 for having a porn on the top 50 list on IMDB
1999- Fight club
2000- toss up between O' brother where art thou and MI:2
2001: The Royal Tenenbaums
2002: Spiderman
2003: ugh this year is hard. I KINDA like a lot of these. I was really into the last samurai but don't know if it holds up (probably not) so maybe...Old school?
2004: the Incredibles
2005: V for vendetta
2006: Casino Royale
2007: Superbad
2008: holy crap such a good year. Iron Man, dark Knight, breaking bad started. Hard to decide just one. Probably The Dark Knight

2012: Django Unchained
2013: American Hustle
2014: Guardians of the Galaxy
2015: Mad Max
2016: Deadpool
2017: John Wick 2

The movie in each year deviates rather significantly from the movie I liked when I was actually in that year.

Particularly in the first few years when I wasn't watching much of anything.

1982 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
1983 - Return of the Jedi
1984 - Ghostbusters
1985 - Back to the future
1986 - Aliens
1987 - The Princess Bride
1988 - Die Hard
1989 - Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
1990 - Goodfellas
1991 - Terminator 2
1992 - Aladdin
1993 - Jurassic Park (This is a tricky year to pick from)
1994 - Forrest Gump
1995 - Seven
1996 - Fargo
1997 - The Fifth Element
1998 - Saving Private Ryan
1999 - The Green Mile (This year has quite a few great movies to pick from. Biggest letdown of the year = The Phantom Menace)
2000 - Memento
2001 - Spirited Away
2002 - Lord of the rings : The two towers
2003 - Lost in Translation

Here is something which might make a good list for me. Spoiled for choice on some years, on others it was hard to find a movie I've even seen. Particularly the last few years were difficult in that respect, as I haven't seen many movies recently. The 2014 entry is the last movie on this list which I actually liked.

1977 – Star Wars
1978 – Jaws II
1979 – Alien
1980 – The Shining
1981 – Raiders of the Lost Ark. Hey, Das Boot also came out this year. But still, my choice is Indiana Jones.
1982 – Conan the Barbarian
1983 – Scarface
1984 – Ghostbusters. Many good movies this year.
1985 – Back to the Future
1986 – Top Gun
1987 – Full Metal Jacket
1988 – Child's Play
1989 – Batman
1990 – The Hunt for Red October. Dances With Wolves and Nikita would also be solid choices here.
1991 – The Silence of the Lambs
1992 - Dracula
1993 – Schindler's List
1994 – Forrest Gump
1995 – Braveheart
1996 – Mission: Impossible
1997 – Starship Troopers
1998 – Saving Private Ryan
1999 – The Green Mile
2000 – Gladiator
2001 – The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring
2002 – Gangs of New York
2003 – Kill Bill: Vol. 1. I didn't like Vol. 2 so much but the first one is good.
2004 – Troy
2005 – Kingdom of Heaven
2006 – Pan's Labyrinth
2007 – Paranormal Activity
2008 – Wall-E
2009 – Inglourious Basterds. A special mention goes to Män som hatar kvinnor, a Swedish movie based on the same book as The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. Haven't seen that Hollywood version, though I heard it's nowhere near as good.
2010 – Centurion
2011 – Hugo
2012 – The Hunger Games
2013 – The Conjuring
2014 – Ex Machina
2015 – Mad Max: Fury Road. I haven't seen The Martian yet and should watch it, but before I do, Mad Max is the best of a poor year.
2016 – Angry Birds. About the only movie I saw from that year.
2017 – War for the Panet of the Apes. Haven't seen any other movie from this year.

I may be making a list of everyone who chose Fury Road and everyone who didn't. Don't worry about it though, it's not like it's a list of people who need to be culled from the Earth....yet.

I haven't seen it yet :'(

Nor have I seen The Godfather, Scarface, Gone with the Wind, Citizen Kane, Schindler’s List, Jaws, or a ton of other movies on this list. I never have been huge movie watcher.

I dug the hell out of Fury Road. But I saw The Martian while I was hospitalized that year and its optimism helped get me through that really hard time.

Excuses Nick.

They can only do you so much good against the cull of the unrighteous.

I mean, you know, not the cull, not the cull. The list is NOT for a cull. THERE WILL BE NO CULL!

CULL!!!!!

Fury Road came *this* close to making my list. Choosing between that & Creed was probably my hardest choice. Considering 2015 also had Jurassic World, MI: Rogue Nation, The Martian, Ant-Man & Force Awakens...damn that was a good year! Any one of those movies is better than some of the ones that actually made my list, but 1 per year is the rules Nick is forcing on us.

This thread sounds like a lot of work. I'll be back in a few hours when I can research what movies came out every year and pick my favorites. :p

I won't deny that it took some time, but it was actually a really interesting exercise to go through. It was enlightening to see how some of my picks have changed over the last year or so. Bravo, @ThatNickGuy.

Also some of you are at an age that I didn't expect and some still apparently died in the early 2000s.

I am a little shocked by the ages on some of you guys. Then I realize we have been HERE for 9 years. And hung out together a bit longer on other sites.

but 1 per year is the rules Nick is forcing on us.
Hey, it wasn't my rule. That's the way the meme/game was played by everyone else in other parts of the web. And I still think having to make that hard choice between two or three and pick ONE is what makes this exercise so interesting and fun. Some years were really challenging!
